grade efficiency

ive seen alot of shocking graded cards recently up for sale on ebay, cards that look way worse than the grade given. the reason i think this is due to comparing my own graded cards to see how strong they are to others, from this, i soon realised that cards that have been graded 1 higher than mine look worse than my lower graded cards. it makes me want to review grading on my cards. I have 7s that look on par or better than most 8s and i have 8s that look so much better than other graded 8s which if mine is an 8 they should be a 7 I just find this very frustrating as the price difference can be huge. ive just seen so many examples of cards that look unworthy of the grade given when comparing them to others of the same grade. I know that there is weak and strong but some literally look easily a grade down form what they have been awarded. what do you guys think? i just feel conned out of a grade when i see examples mentioned

I know what you mean and it is EQUALLY as frustrating on the other side. I got a PSA 10 Feraligatr from neo series that is NOT a PSA 10, it is visible edgeware on the top border, not even those very small factory nicks you sometimes get in the corner…it has those too. So now if I sell it I can’t sell it for PSA 10 price so what was the point of even getting a grade?

Sure there’s a range. Your observations are an age old discussion.

The way I got around it is 95% of the time I only send in cards I believed were 10 worthy. That way, my 10s were 10s and my 9s were strong.
The problem with that was I still got the same number of lowballers who only wanted to pay “low for the grade” prices. I deserved premium offers but got few. So, I keep them all lol.

When purchasing PSA cards pay for the card, and not the grade. An educated buyer is a smart buyer.
Alternatively when selling, disclose as much information as possible.

I use the same method as @garyis2000 and only send in cards I believe are 10 worthy.

I don’t foresee this issue ever going away, as you can never expect perfection from a company with subjectivity involved.
