I think the psyduck is in this issue…

Edit: Here are all the top deck cover photos… any thoughts which one would have the psyduck? I can not say for certain if they are in order. Top Deck covers

pics not mine
I think I can dig out the story of this and translate it out if you want
I don’t think the dates on bulbapedia are actually correct for which issues have the psyduck and vulpix card specifically, but I could be wrong. I think psyduck may be in the June issue, which has a charizard on the cover and comes for a base set 2 booster pack. Tough to know for sure since the card is inside the magazine.
The vulpix has sabrina on the cover since we can clearly see vulpix on the back, but I think that issue is much earlier. According to pokegym it came out in August.
The june and august release are from a timeline posted on pokegym.
TCG Timeline
Edit: The timeline does agree with the release given on bulbapedia for both the kabuto and wartortle.
I errored my error!
I am out of the house now but I will help you look when I have some time.
Just making my way through this thread . . . I did a video on this set earlier this year and love how unique yet achievable it is. I have the sealed Psyduck Magazine is you need some photos or some video b-roll. Let me know!
It’s the one with Misty and Togepi on the cover . . . again, I can hook you up with some photos or videos of my sealed copy.
This inspired me. I just bought one of the Italian ones. I never used to collect other languages but when it fits so neatly into an existing spread I can’t pass it up.
What is the sealed Shadowless Charmeleon? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that one.
It’s just a regular shadowless Charmeleon that was distributed in an issue of Nintendo Power. The card is identical to a regular shadowless Charmeleon, it just had a unique “promotional” distribution so I have it in my promo collection. It’s an ad for the starter set.
It is from Nintendo Power 118, March 1999. It has “Worms” on the cover, I think. A purple one.
That’s awesome though . . . I didn’t know this promotion existed. I might have to start a sealed insert collection of my own now.
I hope you do! For storage, sleeves or boxes meant for 45 rpm records work really well.
Thank you very much @PokemonClassics. That super helps! My only other question is if bulbapedia has the dates correct or not for it and vulpix! Let me know if anything on your copy can corroborate a date.
As far as pictures go, I should be fine just using some off listings but if you would like to post some then I’ll gladly use them.
@stagecoach and @PokemonClassics the charmeleon flyer is super cool and vintage. Surprisingly easy to get too. You can easily buy the flyer seperate and place a charmeleon too.
The date on this Psyduck issue is September 2000 and the date on the Vulpix issue is December 2000.
That would imply bulbapedia is incorrect then. The timeline posted on pokegym is also different too. I suppose the month of release is not necessarily the same as the date on the magazine but is there really any way to tell?
I would for now just take the magazine date.
For haha’s, do you have the kabuto and wartortle date too?
The Wartortle magazine is dated March 2000. The Kabuto issue isn’t dated, but it’s volume 1 issue 1, which multiple sources list as December 1999. The five magazine promos would then look like this, which looks accurate given set order and release date.
Pikachu: Duelist Magazine (September 1999)
Kabuto: Top Deck Magazine (December 1999)
Wartortle: Top Deck Magazine (March 2000)
Misty’s Psyduck: Top Deck Magazine (September 2000)
Brock’s Vulpix: Top Deck Magazine (December 2000)
Awesome. Just nice to have a place where we have confirmed dates and accurate dates. Now we have it in this thread which is easy to find and I’ll have it in a video as well. Much appreciated!
This is my favorite kind of thread, honestly. I love when a bunch of collectors come together and discuss what they know about cards. This is the ultimate spirit of the forum, to me.
Someday somebody else might find this thread and be thrilled that all this information is here. May our children take shade under the trees we’ve planted.
Not sure if this is helpful info but to the best of my knowledge the Dark Charmeleon wasn’t a guaranteed card from the Kraft cheese promo. Other cards from the Team Rocket set could also be found. I don’t have the full list and my memory from back then isn’t perfect but I do have a sealed Team Rocket Voltorb.
