I think Shinings are a bit more interesting compared to GSs. I like that some of the Shining arts have environments compared to the more generic looking backgrounds for Gold Stars.
And now this is the part where I say DPPt shinies are peak! ![]()

Crystals
I really like both and I was lucky enough to pull one of each as a kid. I think most of the current hype over gold stars is just due to their scarcity, Iām sure if there was the same number of shining cards printed they would be viewed in a similar way.
A lot of it is also just people getting influenced.
Apart from some long-time collectors, a huge part of this hobbyās āinvestmentā mindset comes from what they see online, without ever questioning it.
This is the correct answer
Some of them are really good cards, but this sentiment is mostly true.
Without a doubt, gold stars. They are a bit more interesting imo, those with cosmos foil are particularly nicer as well.
Theyāve also had two booms now historically, when shinings have not. Theyāre not for everyone of course but not acknowledging their desirability over shinings (or the tcg as whole), itās hard to convince myself shinings are on top.
Full art shining would be something else. There are a handful of shining āmons that look really nice ā but I think on average, GS cards probably look better.
Does anyone else prefer shining to GS for Charizard?
I donāt have any GSs (not sure I ever will at this rate lol), but GS Charizard is my least favorite GS art⦠something about the head and pose⦠Shining Charizard looks a lot better to me
Iām a bit biased because I collected when shinings were a thing and not when gold stars first came out, but for me gold stars have never really been of much intrigue. The shining cards on the other hand are just an amazing set of cards!
