I think that is the attraction to Kanto Shark. If it is all “Buy it Now” who would want to match last week’s price? Seems like Kanto has the right connections and visibility to get these types of sales (not saying they are all real, I give the benefits of the doubt, but I don’t think they are all cash deals and some trade maybe involved).
All my price on my eBay of my Buy it nows are all above last solds. It’s just the nature and pattern of collectable items.
A healthy dose of skepticism is especially necessary with off-platform sales. We can’t work on hearsay. That’s why it’s crucial for members involved in the transaction to confirm.
A perfect example is people claiming that Scott’s illustrator sold for $4M. His willingness to engage in discussing proof of purchase (lack thereof) was crucial, otherwise we would be none the wiser.
Speaking as one of those people, I think the skepticism is a little too unhealthy. Someone shared how they sold their gs set for similar prices. I also just had a pikachu go for double the previous sale. In fact the person who bought my unikarp for 130k, guess what else he wanted, a PSA 10 rayquaza gs! No offense to anyone, but the lack of market exposure shows in these type of conversations. I’m all for being skeptical, but when there are people commenting they sold their gs cards for similar prices, that makes these ig sales less surprising.
The E4 forum has seen some pretty big booms, but I think this one is at a unprecedented scale. A lot of these people have been in the hobby for years, and some may be able to say that they never would have seen these kind of sales even in 2020. There’s no doubt it would be met with skepticism, because with every new record breaking post it turns from shock to suspicions.
This new market is so weird, and seeing that these posts are posting more and more with no signs of stopping certainly dosn’t help. It’s not lack of market exposure, it’s being in the market so long that it becomes unreal to see gains like this in my opinion.
I can see the point here, but saying lack of market exposure, with some of these people being in the hobby for years, makes the claim kinda fall apart (however, people like me who have been off and on this perfectly applies lol)
I see your point , and with this sale being a psa 10 torchic gs it could be actually legit. Now I wonder what a psa 10 gs rayquaza would be if the torchic is at over 200k
Many of the larger sales are private. For example, I just got a text last night from fanatics private sale rep. That person reaches out only for high end items, therefore excluding majority of the market. The private conversation I just mentioned about the PSA 10 ray buyer, it’s one of many in a day. Hence why I’m not as skeptical about these private sale posts.
With that said, people are free to do what they want, but due to my experience/market exposure, I’m just not as surprised.
can we make some changes to this thread? Maybe worth putting @tidaldreams in his own thread to complain about prices going up and how unhappy he is with it?
I made a decision to sale $80k+ worth of some of my gold stars last night, they sold in 16 hrs. (closed today) Not one PSA 10, rather 8s 7s and 6’s. All sold for at least last comp’s. and all considered top tier characters. The prices people are willing to pay are real. Not saying there isn’t any funny business at times but generally speaking, real. And no I didn’t let go of my Ray or Chicken lol
