Going to Japan, investment opportunity?

Pokemon is about as optimized as it can be at this point. Anything that’s available to buy in the PC that has a higher secondary market value is going to be sold out and resold at that higher pricepoint almost immediately.

At this point in the hobby and current place in the bull market, the only place to make money in this hobby is as follows:

  • Sell your pre-2023 pokemon items and cash in on appreciated values
  • Know what day/hour/minute/second that the MJ Holdings rep restocks Walmart, buy out everything, sell to streamers.
  • Buy hundreds of a specific card via TCG player, then make a super viral video/TikTok about said card being undervalued. Sell said card to suckers jumping on the video hype.
  • Sell pokemon packs and singles on Whatnot to degens for $6.25 an hour.
  • Take damaged cards you find at shows or on FB marketplace, clean them, then sell them at NM condition at next convention.
  • Yolo money into hype cards hoping they continue to climb a month later.
  • Make drama videos on YouTube about cards being “over-valued” and vendors scamming people, fully edit the video, publish the video to make $3.35 an hour.
  • Have an already established name/method to make money off of pokemon before this boom.

Outside of that, just have fun in Japan and enjoy yourself

The way you phrase that make it sound like it is extraordinary that your country does not have a Pokemon Center. But in reality, there are just two Pokemon Centers outside of Japan (in Taipei and Singapore) (and the temporary ones during Worlds). So this applies for the majority of the world population and this forum, that they live in a country without a (permanent) Pokemon Center.

As many others said, simply no. The market is that optimized, if there would be such a product, it would already been cleared off the shelves and resold online.

I can recommend to do as I did: Buy stuff at the Pokemon Center that you like and you have a great memorabilia of your trip when you are back home.

Last year, after visiting many shops famous or not and the Pokémon Center for two months, I only bought AR cards to complete my PC at great prices, but nothing more. Sometimes I found better prices at auctions on eBay or in local shops, but it was fun anyway. Enjoy your trip! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

That was a nice crash course on things to be weary of

Seems like mucho effort

Welcome to the forum! Normally, this is a positive and supportive place. This topic though… It’s a wound that refuses to heal.

Right now, it’s so very hard to engage in modern stuff, but don’t let that bother you! Things will change, hype will subside, and the pain of failed scalping will set in. :smiling_face_with_horns:
