If I buy a card graded by bgs with no subgrades and then send it to bgs to add them in do they keep the same overall grade?
Yes, it will keep the same overall grade. The label will just be updated with the subs.
They will not add the subgrades automatically, as they don’t store/save them unless the card is originally slabbed with them. They will need to regrade it, to determine exact subgrades.

To my knowledge, they use the same scale whether they are adding sub grades or not. I sent a stormfront zard that was a 9 with no subs. It returned with 9.5/9.5/9/8.5. Same overall grade of 9.
