Going full basic genwunner here, but for the purposes of this poll, it’s Charizord.
I like the other ex cards more, but when I think of an iconic card that represented the era, Charizard is it. I think back to when I was a kid, everyone wanted the Charizard ex. 160 HP, 200 damage attack, shiny red card, it ticked all the boxes. I don’t think anyone cared about Celebi or Milotic or Snorlax all that much. Lugia was also a popular card back then because it also did 200 damage, but not on the level of Charizard.
Why we can only choose one in this poll? There are so many great ex cards not listed, so I’m afraid this poll might not be fair enough to some…
Nevertheless my top 3 ex cards:
Mew ex (holon phantoms) - the famous ‘golden ratio’ Mew, iconic pose and artwork! Even much better than the 7,000 pts JPN version with Mew looking dazed and clueless while floating in space.
Umbreon ex - very cool and awesome-looking card!
Mewtwo ex (team rocket return) - as explained in the Mewtwo poll recently.
i assume this is focused around english, but wouldn’t the PLAY Mew ex be the grail ex of the hobby? maybe there are some condition issues which cause certain others to be more expensive especially in english, but that one would be at the top in my head if i were to imagine an hierarchy of exes
Yeah there’s a lot of jpn exclusive/trophy bias on this forum. I just wanted to go over good ol fashion nostolgic English set cards which we don’t discuss on here as often
If you didn’t give every ex card a chance (to be voted), how would you find the “icon of the era”?
Me objecting (despite me being Mew fan)
To be impartial (judging just artwork-wise), it’s just Mew floating in space, looking dazed. Other than it’s a 7000 pts “trophy” card, there is nothing special about it.
I took out stuff that is obviously not the single grail card. When there’s a choice between Umbreon and espeon I chose Umbreon. Same with lugia and ho oh. It’s in the text on top. There’s a lot of ex cards
We already have a poll ranking all the ex cards in tier list form
yes I know but like I said its not all about the dollar sign. It is a little more nuanced. its a combo of art, species popularity , money, pop report, set history, set print quality, reprint history etc etc.
