Leave it to Gamestop to make resellers look generous
Slightly off topic but GameStop stock price edit - renormalized on news of poor earnings and share issuance. Went from $49 to sub $20 in less than a week.
I don’t know if drop/tank are correct words to describe a return to normal from a completely unsustainable spike
Though I’m sure you’d disagree if you bought in at $40+ lol
Agreed

Take a look a what’s for purchase already. Pretty quick given the program less than two weeks old.
PSA 8 Base Set Blastoise goes for about $180 on ebay, yet gamestop is charging over $300
So now that the Twilight Masquerade promos are announced, GameStop US does not get the promos. But GameStop Canada does. Wonder if this has anything to do with them buying/selling graded cards now. Are we about to see people going crazy for Canadian GameStop promos?
I went to GameStop today to sell some cards. I brought a stack of PSA 8/9 cards that I did not want to hold onto, mostly very modern alt arts and full art trainers, typically $10-40 in value. I used PSA Set Registry to get a preliminary value for every card, planning to not sell anything they offer 50% or less on.
Interestingly, they seem to offer $3 for any slab not otherwise priced in their system, and the prices vary a lot on the cards they do have a list item for. Most of these cards were $15 or less in value.
I got higher than the value on several cards, and they were mostly interested in Charizard/Mewtwo/Eeveelution type of cards. I had the worker scan every card for value, and then do all the integrity/authenticity checks after I said yes/no to the value. The worker even encouraged me to try the “no” cards again later, thinking they might be added to the system with higher values.
Next I want to try some PSA 10 cards and to see where they offer on cards closer to $100 in value. I’ve seen stories of offers near 80% on cards of $150 value or so, which really isn’t too bad if you’d otherwise have to pay fees to sell online.
I ended up selling about 1/3 of the 30 cards I brought in and came away with $240 in cash, about 77% of the value I wrote down for those cards.
What may be considered junk slabs to us may be a little kids inspiration to start collecting.
I like the whole idea of this. Brings more eyes to the hobby and lets kids pick up cards much easier seeing as though a lot of youngsters may not shop online. More right up front. Also gives pokemon more promotion.
I can imagine they will slowly up the $500 dollar limit when they’re ready. In which case its nice to have a place to sell your cards instantly when you need to. Instead of waiting for Ebays algorithm to never show people your listing because you used the wrong wording (kidding but not really) and Im not saying gamestop is a better option than ebay at all. Just mentioning the convenience of selling slabs when you need to on the spot and not needing to wait for your funds to be released. Instacash =
Next announcement:
Gamestop’s exclusive mystery slab bag.
Lol that’s about all they could do with the stuff I’m sure they’re accumulating.
But they would sell. People love mystery bags
Its on brand with all the blind box stuff they already sell
Honestly, not a bad idea for them considering that they’re attempting to drive traffic from kids and teens.
Until you see the insane markups they are trying on their cards
I can see the youtube open mouth thumbnails now. Cant wait for gamestop mystery slab boxes!!!
Just want to let people know they can look up what GS will pay for your cards on their website. Limited to 5 certs per day and you need to have an account. It’s definitely got some mispriced cards so it’s worth it to check out. I just got done selling some cards to my local GS. Biggest misprice was a card I had listed for $54.99 on eBay. GS gave me $90 cash for it.
I really hope the online estimate tool is wrong bc it says they’d give me 15 bucks for a PSA 10 Darkrai Fan Club promo and 18 for a PSA 10 Everyone’s Exciting Battle Pikachu lol.
Lol, yes I still had some PSA 10 cards that GS would only give $3 and even one that said they would not buy the card. There are outliers though so I think it’s worth it to check.
Is the price estimate based on store credit or cash value? Interesting feature to drive more traffic to Gamestop.
I may have been looking wrong but I couldnt find where this is on their site. Any help?
