Does anyone think this is only a good thing for people looking to dump a bunch of slabs they are having a hard time getting rid of? I can see that happening and then GameStop having a majority of their inventory being slabs nobody wants.
This might play out like the eBay vault, where things start too good to be true to garner interest, and then normalize.
I’m curious if any good slabs will show up in a few weeks or it will all be junk slabs
So if GameStop buys at basically market price, would they sell quite a bit above and cause slabs to go up a bit in general? I just don’t see how they plan to make any money on it.
The slabs won’t be sold in store. Individual GameStop storefronts will buy the slabs and then ship them to an online sales warehouse. You’ll be able to buy the slabs online
So I just left Gamestop with thousands of dollars!
Just kidding!
I entered with 28 cards and left with 28 cards. They told me they started Monday and I was their first. They had a sheet with the what they needed to check to authenticate. The first card they took about five to ten minutes to look over it to make sure it’s good. Then they entered it into the system to see the offer…
$3… store credit
The next ones went much quicker to get the offer since they knew what to look for now.
$56 store credit
and $35 store credit
We stopped after these 3. They had told me they do 40%-50% market price. It felt closer to 30%-40% except for that $3 at 10% or less. I was hoping for 70%, but would have taken 60%.
They were very excited to get someone in and it was fun to bring the cards, but it won’t be what most are expecting. Perhaps it will be different for modern cards with lots of sales, but I don’t have any of that to bring in and check.
Lastly, one customer who came in asked about the cards I had and I said he could take a look but I quickly realized my mistake and said he’d have to wait till I was done. Gamestop manager said the same thing, but the other customer kinda escalated until he was asked to leave. Security was called, but he left before they showed up. If you are going to stop by, then be careful and respectful. You can’t try to sell to other people while trying to sell to Gamestop. And if you see someone bringing in cards to sell to the store, then wait until they leave the store to ask about buying any.
Anyway, that was my experience. You may have a different one.
Hopes and dreams, crushed
When reading this. The first thing that popped into my mind was the pawn stars meme “Best I can do is $2 and a couple stickers”
Boooo, what even is the point then?
Other than stollen goods and people desperate for cash, who is going to accept offers of 30-40% market value?
trade in prices seem wild… if u holding any amount of modern id dump a lot at these prices
If this is slab prices imagine singles. Store credit of 2 cents then they’ll sell them for $1
Yes, since the announcement. Its going to be awful unless they have stricter rules on what they accept.
Will GameStop offer cash? I know he mentioned store credit. Seems like the same type of thing with their video game trade ins. Low ball you
Cash was 10% lower
Oof. Maybe they will work out kinks and take feedback from customers to improve. I doubt it but at least we can hope
So unless its a hot moving card, chances are that it wont be anywhere close to a fair price and youre better selling it on ebay for 60%
I’ll double their offer on garchomp!
Responding late, but yeah cash is indeed acceptable at those lower rates. I do not see gamestop making any money from this, and they dont seem like they did research on WHY people buy slabs, or which cards are desirable. On top of this trying to compete with ebay would be difficult if they plan on selling at market price. My wife works there currently as a manager, and even she thinks its an awful idea. Maybe they know something we dont :/?
