How long do we have before GameStop starts vending at events like TCGPlayer and Troll n Toad

I wonder what the minimum market price of the slab has to be worth in order to max out that $500
An interesting update, GameStop will offer pretty much market price
Prob 12-1400 because they want margins to run this I don’t know if they’d risk less than 900
I can already see someone grading random commons, selling a couple to themselves to manipulate the ‘market price’ and then go to GameStop for a big, automated cashout.
This is an interesting gamble. Presumably they expect the price of a slab to go up, even marginally, and become appreciating inventory.
I wonder how good their counterfeit detection will be. I ready the article about blacklights and training but is it good enough that trades could go down at GameStop and have them inspect the slabs? They could charge for that but they might not be interested due to liability
Just found out that the gamestops near me are participating. I’ll go sometime this week to see how it is.
I am in the USA early june, will try to find a gamestop to see if they want to buy my slabs.
Oh hell yeah. I have a few lower value slabs ($40-50) that haven’t sold and have been sitting on Ebay for a while. I’ll have to go see how much they would give me for them.
Not gonna lie, if they’re giving cash close to market price I might take a few slabs there. Assuming they would sell on eBay for market price, the cash option is equal to if not greater than ebay payout.
I wonder how particular GameStop will be in determining what they want vs. don’t want. If they are taking everything, I will be stopping by for sure.
Personally I wouldn’t wait for them to figure that out. I think buying slabs at 90% value is braindead and I know I would unload a lot if it was close to me
Agree with @Dyl the main benefit for GameStop is this will drive foot traffic. Assuming there’s no way to check inventory online, I could see myself popping into a store once every few weeks to check what’s available. Even if customers don’t buy a slab they might purchase other items from the store. Strategic move by GameStop.
This follows the retail trend whereby real estate operators are tenanting retail/commercial spaces with tenants that require you to go physically; restaurants, cafe, gyms, nail salon, experiences like axe throwing, escape rooms etc. These have been more insulated from online competition, and basically the only tenants that still exist if you walk into an old Sears/Macys shopping mall.
Will be interesting to see how they generate buy/sell prices on slabs. My gut says they’ll probably be a healthy discount to market value on anything they buy to account for overhead and profit.
Knowing how they price games to sell/trade-in, I can’t imagine a world where they offer 90% on slabs.
You’re living it in apparently
They’re probably offering a lot at the moment to roll this new feature out with a bang rather than a whimper. How lame would it be to hear Gamestop is selling graded Pokemon cards and to go to a local store and see two normal V slabs because they are being miserly on their purchase prices. And to see the same two slabs when you come in a few weeks later.
Just my opinion, but I think slabs are mainly artificially inflated (aside from special promos, etc), so maybe we can see a healthy medium where it stabilizes the market for FOMO.
…I will have news soon
