Weird that GameStop is search for 1.75 bil while having 6.4 sh billion in cash
they can generate alot of cash because of the whole meme stonk thing. everytime the retail investors pump the stock they can issue new shares generating a ton of capital
r/Superstonk singlehandedly allows GME to stay alive.
I hope nat turner doesn’t sell. He has built a great business with this aquisition in such a short amount of time. I want to see it continue to grow and learn from some of these business moves that under Gamestop would most likely stall.
I used to work at a Gamestop in college. If they’re going to really focus on high-end collectibles as opposed to the funko pop-esque nerd merch they’ve been dealing in as of late, they’re going to have to start hiring more savvy employees at higher payrates. I’ve seen too many retro games ruined by Gamestop employees that treat their stock of physical games as expendable junk; and who can blame them at min. wage+?
It still makes my blood boil when I see some nasty residue crusted retail price sticker on top of a retro cartridge label, or on a box art insert.
Gamestop will always have a place in my heart; I still go there to find solid deals on current or last generation games, but I’ve never particularly trusted them to handle actual collectibles, games or otherwise. Maybe them focusing on online retail as opposed to brick and mortar is a good thing, at least in that regard.
I agree I don’t think anyone thinks that GameStop knows what they’re doing in the tcg space.
They’re just another in the long line of rich entities going all in on the extremely lucrative tcg world as of late.
Things have changed a bit since I worked there a decade ago; I used to hop around stores in my area to pick up shifts, and anybody I ever worked with was a pretty enthusiastic lifelong gamer that knew what they were talking about. These days, I feel very differently…if it’s not about Funko Pops or the absolute latest AAA slop, they can’t assist me whatsoever. It’s why I almost exclusively shop at my local mom & pop retro store now.
Just doesn’t bode well for a company trying to diversify to even more realms of collectibles. I fear a world where a high-end card gets traded into Gamestop only to get lost in their chaotic storage rooms and end up hidden behind a toilet or something.
They are just further reducing the number of mint copies left of every collectible they are dealing in lol.
they should figure out how to grade a booster box before they went into that funko shits coz that would be actually useful
who would even pay $40 or w/e to grade a funko when 95% of them are worth $10 or less
So anyone figure out what happened that day with the re-directs of the PSA site?
