Whoever is hunting them down just go for the raw ones, but use good judgement from who you buy them from. TCA Gaming is one I would trust. And i believe SSJC has one listed too! I agree with Scott on those green encapsulation cards as they aren’t worth the premium price. On the other hand the ones that were graded by accident initially, those make sense to garner a higher price!

While as far as I’m aware there isn’t any official documentation from WOTC to verify the FPO cards, having been brought to the market via charizard authority through a former WOTC employee surely that adds credit to them.
I feel calling them a faux collectable is a bit unjust, people obviously find them desirable and are willing to pay decent money for them. While there is no official documentation to prove that they were printed by WOTC as part of a test print there is also no evidence to disprove it at this stage.

There’s enough legit areas in our hobby to concentrate on.

I completely understand your viewpoint and there is reason to be sceptical of course. I personally wouldn’t prioritise these cards over other collection goals however I do love the air of mystery and interesting story behind them.
While this maybe a bit naive, as a charizard collector I feel that the fpo charizard is one of the most interesting and one of the cards I most enjoy out of my collection. In the future you never know what maybe discovered and if the cards turned out to be from a illegitimate source I’ll have a nice paperweight and a lighter wallet for it but for me personally that’s a risk I was willing to take. (at least back when they were about 300 dollars).

Like Marmite, FPO’S aren’t to everyone’s taste (don’t know if you have that in the US but UK members will know what I mean)

I gotta admit, the marketing and slow release of these were done extremely well to maximize return.

If they are easy to fake, aint the PSAencapsulated ones especially be good to buy [even the custom ones?] since PSA don’t grade 'm at all anymore & it’s the only way you can say you have a ‘legit’ FPO set?

Don’t mean to offend or anything, just a dutch noob who really can’t figure this out. Almost makes me sad for purchasing a few ones for my expedition set

(Almost… Just a big eseries fan so I probably won’t stop collecting whatever I can from that era )

PSA made a mistake in grading any of these which is why they stopped. The current ones graded could be suspect too seeing as they declared it a mistake to touch them in the 1st place.

Begs the question, if its in a PSA case and they stop authenticating them, do they rescind all applicable guarentees and PSA are no longer liable?

I would assume yes they are no longer responsible.

I didn’t know it could work like that. What’s to keep PSA from rescinding responsibility of ANYTHING they grade then?
