Favorite Pokemon card for each year

Inspired by the 25th creatures deck, what card would you pick to represent each year?
I’d love to see your favorites rather than the ones you think are most iconic, this might crossover though!

Would love to see the first 10 years (1996 - 2006) but if you are up for the 25 years feel free to include! Can be Japanese or in any other language.

I couldn’t stop. Not sure I could call these my favourites because there are too many great art works, but they’re all beautiful!

By Japanese year of release, 1996-present.

Observations -

2020 SUCKED. No wonder vintage was what exploded in the boom, 99.99% of cards released that year were garbage.

2002 (or 2003 in English as others above mentioned) is the best year by far.

I’m not a Pikachu fan by any stretch of the imagination and somehow the little rat found his way to become the most common appearer thanks to some sneaky collaborations.

I created my list for all Japanese promos from 1996 - 2022. This was a challenging but fun list to make.

1999-2022 based on English release and only focused on set cards because I was lazy lol. There are definitely some JP promos that would overtake some of these, but very fun to go through the sets by year and pick out my favourites.
