Are we now claiming that ES isnt driven by modern hype?
I’m not sure a bolder claim has been made on this forum since 2020

nah i’m just showing the receipt that pokebuffet’s “tell(ing) it how it is” didn’t get deleted.
I think this were Battle Style cases if I remember correctly.
The deleted post was a multi-timed debunked claim that pull rates of ES were altered by the stolen copies. If there is new evidence, post it. If not please stop.
The post was flagged for disinformation by another user and it was removed by me. It was the path of least resistance since we’ve hashed this over multiple times.
There is no “freedom of speech” on e4 in the same way there is no “freedom of speech” in the journal Nature. You can’t just publish anything you want on there. There’s a standard that is expected and enforced.
99.99% of posts stay up. The 1 in 10000 posts that cause an issue go.
fiber.
Good to know one’s priorities.
That’s not the message.
More than 2 years since release already, you still call ES “modern” and driven by hype?
Yes
I would. I imagine anyone who’s been around since before the COVID days would too
I’d call it ultramodern actually
TCG Player as of today (Feb 6th 2024)
Something about this feels wrong. shouldn’t the biggest card in the set be worth more than the box? what’s the point in buying a box when you could just buy any card from the set for less?
edit: on further thought, my logic isn’t validated when looking at older eras. I retract my snarky comment.
could be worse…
I suppose the big difference between these two eras is that SM was OoP when the sealed craze began. People couldn’t just go back and pick up a box to put in their closet like they could with EVS.
the set is pretty stacked to be fair it has more than just the umbreon. It would be interesting to see a weighted average of a box’s expected value compared to its market price to determine which boxes are undervalued.
But that becomes very hard to estimate with pull rates and raw pack fresh values I guess
oh for sure. i’ve always been confused by box prices for most sets tbf. I’m also against gambling, so i think my brain just can’t understand the logic of taking the risk. the only thing that makes sense is if you like the set so much, you want to have it sealed which is respectable. i’ve contemplated buying a Vs pack before.
As of today:
$400+ range is for LP condition. $600+ is for NM condition. Be fair to the card. Compare only prices in the same grade/condition.
as of today. $450 for a NM condition. Be fair to the card. Compare only prices in the same grade/condition
wait wait wait. those are korean. my bad. my bad
$500 for NM
edit: turns out i was way off. it’s actually $5000 for a NM copy. i concede to the moon

Is there concrete evidence pull rates weren’t affected by this?
Not being a d* but just wondering if Pokemon’s statement is worth taking as the final say in a scandal.
I imagine PSA submissions compared to other sets would prove the pull rates weren’t affected?
But there is no way of proving either yes? Other than trusting the official statement released by Pokemon Company. I mean one can choose to believe that the pull rates were affected, but to state that as a factual claim would be wrong because Pokemon Company has denied these as rumours in a statement.
Cheers!
I opened one ES box and it was the worst abomination of a box I can recall. So can confirm my rates were altered. And I demand retribution
Pokebeach did a good write-up on this where they explain how, given the images and information we have, it’s virtually impossible that thefts affected pull rates.
The tl;dr is that the cards were stolen in-between printing and loading into packs. Because the cards were stolen at that stage, workers would simply just go get more already-printed special arts to load into the pack-filling machine, and if they ran out, they would print more or stop production.
It’s like if you’re baking a cake, but before you start baking, someone steals three cups of flour from your cupboard. It’s annoying, but because you hadn’t started baking the cake yet, there isn’t any impact on the taste of the cake.
Oooh, I really like your analogy! Thanks for putting it in a clear way since it really doesnt matter what exact step the flour is stolen, it is replaced before baking regardless.
