It was a 15cad loss for me. The amount of time it would take to execute some petty response plus phone time with ebay to expunge some (perhaps justified at that point) negative feedback is not even close to worth it.
I agree with PFM! I’m not very petty or unprofessional . . . but I don’t mind sharing frustrations with other collectors in the hopes that they can be spared from similar issues with bad buyers/sellers (plus it’s therapeutic to vent a little). I issued the refund and blocked the buyer.
UPDATE: After I cancelled the order and refunded his payment, I included a message saying:
“Your request will cost me $10 in non-refundable PayPal fees, but I cancelled the order as your requested (at my own expense). Please avoid my listings in the future.”
I know it’s not what you want to hear, but it’s water under the bridge. Think of it as you’ll sell another tomorrow and by Monday you won’t think of it. Everything balances out
First ebay removed an option to leave a negative feedback for the buyer, now this crap. Are there any other legit options to sell? I don’t want to use personal my facebook account, Mercari is kinda ok, but there’s not a lot of market. Any other options?
If PayPal had an option to recoup refund fees from the buyer instead of the seller (for buyer requested cancellations only), than this issue wouldn’t exist. It’s actually borderline criminal how PayPal operates their fee policy . . . I believe I read about a class-action lawsuit being filed over this policy when it was first implemented last fall.
What a clown. Instead of blocking the buyer, I’m going to save his username. Then i’m going to wait for him to post items for sale, buy everything, pay for it, then cancel the order
Day before yesterday I made a offer on a Blastoise ex. I was just about to pay and I decided to look real closely at the card to make sure i didn’t miss any significant damage. I noticed two corners had previously been bent and bent back into place so it wasn’t originally noticeable because they hid the damage. I told the seller sorry I don’t buy damaged cards and he was furious. Granted it’s particularly my fault for not seeing the damage but at the same time if the seller didn’t purposely try his best to hide the damage I would have instantly seen corners bent out of place
Nope, if a buyer requests a cancellation/refund the options are 1). Cancel/refund now and take the loss on fees or 2). Ship the card, only to have the buyer force a return/refund later. Option two ends up being more expensive and inconvenient. eBay/PayPal don’t allow other options and force sellers to accept returns regardless of the reason.
Ok, so I have been trying to contact an eBay seller regarding an item which is a dual listing for an English PSA graded card and Japanese PSA graded card. I am mainly interested in the English card (not a JP collector) and sent the seller a message requesting such, with a fair price included. However, I have gotten no response. Usually when I message a seller they will at least reject the offer then we can negotiate what they consider a fair deal or they counteroffer. In this case, the items together are around $90 and I offered $70 for just the English card which I believe to be fair.
This seller is Australian btw, so I don’t know if that plays any part in them not responding to me since I usually deal with people in the states. The listing was ending soon, so I sent another follow-up message regarding my offer yet no response again…then it was relisted.
@pkmnflyingmaster, Yeah I can understand that, but the least they could do is respond saying such. I’ve purchased on eBay for many years and have always been able to engage buyers in dialogue. Granted, if I was low-balling or being rude…that’d be a different story, but isn’t the case.
