Ebay bidders on high end items/then cancel - block this guy

I’m very frustrated that people do this on my items.
This is the message I got for a PSA 10 1st ed Dark Magneton

No, i just bid on impulse. I thought the card was a good value until I did more research. I came across the auction right when it was ending. I have never requested to cancel a purchase before but im going through a bit of buyer’s remorse right now. I anticipated the card was going to go for more than 5k and I was shocked I won. Im sorry but could you offer a second chance offer to the next bidder?

Ebay buyer is pokekantotcg

Maybe I’m just pissed because it’s in the heat in the moment, but I hate people messing with my income.

Well, the only thing that buyer has going for him/her is that they were honest and weren’t blaming their (non-existent) son:confused:

But I agree that I hate buyers like that. Always think before you make a purchase, and even if you did make a mistake (happens to the best of us) and have buyer’s remorse, it’s your own fault, not the seller’s. I’ve won auctions in the past I wasn’t expecting to win, but when I did I just paid the seller. I’ve also bought cards for which I realized a few hours later I already had them incoming but forgot to mark them as such in my checklists, but I didn’t message to cancel the duplicated order either.

Ah well, unfortunately you can’t do too much about it. If you don’t cancel and still send it to that winner, they’ll just open an eBay return case for whatever made-up reason and you’ll loose even more money and time…

Quuador

Ha yeah, that is the most honest “I shouldn’t have bought this” I’ve ever seen. Would not blame anyone making a block list addition though.

@hisoka107 Ouch. Sorry to hear that! Too many people bidding on items they have no interest in purchasing. Or just trying to up the price so their own PSA 10 Magneton is worth more… It’s just becoming too common. I avoid auctions because I hate competing especially with people who may be shill bidding.

I’m sure this hurts me sometimes but i do just fine buying off E4 members. Or simple buy it now listings.

I hear a lot of people say you can usually get cards cheaper at auction but from what I’m seeing auctions end up being a new record price more often then not. Maybe I’m missing something?

It’s to the point I’ve seen auctions sell over the Buy it Now listings that were already on eBay.

Yes I get several of those when I have a high end auction… thats why I try never to do them. Crazy amount of people that say “woah I bid XX amount, I thought it would go higher please cancel.”

As Carlin said, imagine how stupid the average person is, then realize that half the population is stupider than that.

@hisoka107, as a new seller these stories always give me a little nervousness when it comes to selling on ebay. Just nonsensical that people do this. Added to the block list, thanks!

@mcorey777, it’s happened a few times that I’ve paid attention to on PWCC auctions. Sometimes if an item comes up I’ll look around at BIN prices and just use that as my bid. I’ve had a couple times where it went over that and I just went and bought the BIN one instead. Doesn’t make sense to me but I guess some people just put down whatever they want and don’t do the research.

i also consistently get questions after someone has bought my item to confirm details on stuff…some have cancelled after the fact…

seriously, if i worked at eBay and could make some decisions on how eBay as a website operated, i’d put in place some very harsh penalties…

This is super common these days. Plenty of people, and frankly likely this “honest” guy are also doing a ton of shill bidding to hold up the appearance of prices and then when they win make up an excuse, or pull on your heart strings to get out of paying.

It is a win win for them as they either just back out of paying or push the price higher on a card they likely already own.

Frustrating times, with more money comes more shady human behavior, there is no avoiding it, so we just have to do the best to police it and create groups where people are pressured to behave ethically.

I’m pretty sure people have fun bidding as well…

It’s like their kids thinking it’s a game. I hear people say I won this auction! Well technically you did but all you really did was buy the card. The person who won is who sold it. That’s just my take tho :joy:

The worst is when they are paid and cancelled. Paypal keeps that 3% fee and you can’t do anything about it.

Haha I can’t say cause when I’m bidding on something I get super stressed hoping that I won it with my snipe. I much prefer the BIN prices but hey, auctions are where the deals are sometimes at. But yeah, definitely agree, especially if the buyer’s paying that new high price on it

Ya I should give auctions another shot at one point. What im doing currently id encourage others to do as well. I’ve started to compile a list of fellow E4 members and I have links to multiple users eBay listings. Basically it works well for everyone to avoid the eBay fees and also support a fellow collector with in the community.

Obviously Wtb threads work but I prefer to not list cards I’m looking for and prefer to know the price the seller will accept. That way I’m not low balling my offer. It’s not hard coming up with a fair deal and i tend to let the seller take the lead.

P.S anyone reading this feel free to pm me a link to your eBay store.

I know it’s been tried before, but if you’re actively doing and and stick to updating it you should just start a thread on it. Most of those treads get abandoned by the people that post them. But there probably should be a general list for at least eBay.

@cullers I would I like helping people but don’t want to screw myself in the process. There’s plenty I wouldn’t mind sharing but the seller I like best I’d be worried people would clear out the set I’m working on. At the same time it would be wrong to not give a shout out to that particular seller. So once I finish the set or down the line I might do it. Sorry for being somewhat selfish guys but i did give the tip for people to reach out to other members selling cards

Blocked. He also changed his ebay name to pokekantoregion.

Just want to note that while a list of E4 sellers is a great idea in theory, it is something we have considered in the past and decided against. It just gets too far into the sale/marketplace arena which we don’t want to deal with. Having a link to your eBay store in your signature is great because it allows for the same thing as a list (easily locating E4 sellers) while also encouraging organic participation on the forum (the more you post, the more people see your signature/eBay store).

Just for my peace of mind, has everyone had a spike in customer’s trying to return higher end items? So far, 1/2 of all sales over $1000 have been coming back complaining the card isn’t perfect, or just trying to return.

If you’re honest and bought out of your price range, I will accept as everyone has been there and IDC that much. But the people threatening to bad mouth you because they want a partial refund or return is driving me bonkers! Had to ask

Block them and post their Ebay name here so we can block them as well.

No I don’t, I simply tell them they’re free to start the return process by requesting it from eBay and I will block them from my store.

More times than not they don’t return the card. I get a lot of upset people but I tell them it’s nothing personal, just how I run the store.

100% this. Make them jump through the hoops and maybe they’ll think next time.
