I personally like a coupe of the new features. Hopefully more states start kicking in on sales tax. I think that is to everyone’s benefit from a legal standpoint.
@thecharizardauthorty, Thanks for that Rusty! So is the sales tax collected automatically? If so that would make it a lot easier. I currently just eat the sales tax cost in my margins.
Everything seems ok to me expect for this one “The listing duration for all fixed price listings will be Good 'Til Cancelled”
I always preferred the 30 day option for most of my items, when the 30 day period was over it was always a good point to see whether to keep the item for sale, lower/increase price etc. and I’m almost certain that relisting the item every 30 days gives your item way more visibility compared to just sitting there for months while using good till cancelled format.
I have always used Good Til Cancelled - I even use out of stock so it stays live even while at 0 QTY. For me it always seemed like a waste to let watchers and previous sales end on a listing. Taking out the option did surprise me though, unless it was just rarely used.
I remember when you could pay like $30 a listing per month and have it stuck at the top of a page like an advertisement. I used that like crazy, and it really helped big sales, but they did away with that saying it did not help sellers.
Yeah good till cancelled is definitely the best option for large sellers like you, and especially for multi quantity listings. But making it mandatory for all BIN listings makes no sense at all other than it will be a great way for ebay to receive more $$$ from insertion fees since all listings will be automatically renewed unless you manually cancel them.
It will be absolute terrible for smaller sellers and sellers who primarily list single quantity items like PSA cards. I want to list some of my items only at certain times and I don’t want them to sit there forever untill the item sells, and I don’t want to babysit my listings and end them manually every 30 days if I don’t want them to stay on sale for longer than that. This will be just an extra unnecessary hassle.
Also a lot buyers have this mindset with GTC listings that they have all of the time in the world to look for a better deal / prices from elsewhere before possibly purchasing the item from you, but with 30 day listings you would be surprised how many sales happens on the last day.
There is actually an outrage on the ebay forums about this change, with hundreds of sellers against it:
Edit: seems like ebay deleted / hid the first thread that I linked which was a petition to keep the 30 day fixed price listings, it had support from hundreds of sellers, sad.
This seller update was the 1st one since I started selling full time that I felt was happy about. Most of the time it’s sugarcoated bad news. Many of these changes will make my life easier.
I’ve always heard that when comparing good till cancelled and 30 day listings is that new listings get a bump in the search, and for that reason I’ve always used 30 day listings. I also used it as an opportunity to review prices every 30 days during the relisting process. I assume sellers who want that bump will just bring down, then put back up their listings in bulk. Or maybe you’ll be unable to do that and everyone will lose that benefit at once which keeps things even.
I understand the criticism, but “absolutely terrible” for smaller sellers? I doubt it. Sure, the occasional sale made by a buyer who feels pressure to snatch an item before the listing ends might not happen, but I’m sure there are going to be sales that happen because your item was on ebay for a longer total period of time. I’m sure there are plenty of examples where an item spends 1-2 days not on ebay because the listing ended and the seller either didn’t notice, or only checks their ebay every few days. What if someone was looking for your item during that period?
