eBay No Return

I just had a seller make me an offer I like on an item but they have 0 feedback and just made an account this month. I’m not really worried about them paying cus I go through PayPal, but more so then retuning the item. It’s a $1500 item and I don’t wanna deal with them opening it and possibly damaging it then wanting a return and refund. Question is if I put in the description “no returns” and it’s also in the listing, is there a way for them to somehow get around that to where I have to take it back and give the refund?

Chances are youd win the battle if you have an issue like that. Id take extra photos of your item, insure the package. And if want to be super safe. Register mail. As long as tracking shows it gets to the address, you should be alright. Even better if you have solid feedback.

My opinion

U putting no returns in ur description and listing doesn’t matter at all unfortunately lol. They can still return it if it’s significantly not as described. They can’t return it because of buyer’s remorse but often times they’ll lie about something in order to try and get a refund anyways.

It’s a statue. I put in the description that I only cracked the styrofoam seal to peek at it, then closed it back up. I also put that if something in the box is messed up there is nothing I can do.

That wont help you and only serves to make it sound like you know something is wrong and are hiding it. Not accusing you of that, just saying that’s what it sounds like.

If this was a $100 PSA card I’d say give them the benefit of the doubt, everyone starts on eBay with 0 feedback. But for a $1,500 fragile statue IMO it is reasonable to be nervous. Sure there’s a 95% chance everything goes smoothly but if someone has feedback and a reputation that goes from 95 → 99%.

Understood, just being cautious and honest as I’ve never taken it out to set it up or anything like that. It could be wobbly or the paint could be chipped and I have no idea how the buyer will respond to something like that.

When you said you cracked the styrofoam seal, were you taking a look at the statue or is the styrofoam around the box, inside of another box or something?

If you already broke the seal, then maybe you should have just inspected it so you knew exactly what you’d be sending out. Usually I see listings saying something along the lines of “Opened box to inspect contents only.” If the statue is broken or has paint defects the buyer is unhappy with, they can just send it back anyways because at that point the item is damaged/defective. I would think the buyer probably bought your item because they are going to open it anyways (depending on what seal you broke), otherwise they would have bought a completely new/sealed one instead.

As people have already mentioned, ebay & paypal are overly protective of buyers. A buyer will just about always be granted a return even if you put you don’t accept returns as your only text in description.

Most people buy things because they want them. Buyers remorse isn’t that common. Feedback rarely indicates a good/bad buyer in my experience, but does seem to have a correlation with non paying. If you sell something and there’s missing parts it’s not on the buyer to ‘deal with it’ it’s on the seller to make it clear what’s being bought.

Overall, if you’re asking us will eBay/PayPal protect you if you’re trying to pull a fast one on a buyer, no they won’t. Is there recourse if the buyer tries to pull something on you, yes, but it’s so uncommon I doubt you’ll need the advice.

Update: So I ended up going for it and shot them a counter offer and they accepted. Then about 10 minutes later they send me this message.

Kinda pissed off because I just had a dude stall payment for two weeks on a different item because he didn’t have the money but I tried to be lenient and understanding and gave him time. He never ended up paying and i has to cancel it. Sorry this isn’t about Pokémon just needed help from more knowledgeable sellers.
