those three are probably my favorite set just for how unique the art style is and how well it is done.

Phew going through this poll almost felt like an actual job, things were nice and easy until EX FireRed LeafGreen and geneally speaking better side of gen 3 sets began.
Need to take another look later just to make sure I didn’t miss anything important.

That was intense! Really appreciate the effort to put all of these together! As someone who didn’t collect during this era, it was fun moving through the sets one by one and seeing how they evolved. There are definitely a lot of arts that aren’t for me, but there are also plenty of great ones. Strong contrast for sure!

As someone with little to no nostalgia for this era of cards, its hard to clearly be in the minority. While there are a good few that are clearly incredible, there are just so many with just bad CG models. I will forever say that the Jolteon ex is Arita’s worst card. So sorry in advance to all the fans of these cards, just not too many I really vibed with.

the aesthetic is baked in, but i agree, most are not enjoyable to look at.
these were also the first “ultra rares” which would eventually become today’s double rare (such as GX, V, and the current gen ex which are literally the same as these mechanically)
but truthfully, the thing that makes them special is that they were the first with the full holo borders and imo are better than the following LV.Xs which were a downgrade in every way as far as art aesthetic (again, imo)

The hikoru koike ones are really odd for me. Here a lot of them look weird but when i go through only cards made by koike and see all of them next to each others they hit very differently and look actually kinda cool
I usually dislike Delta cards and CGI cards but something about these 2 I really like! And they’re super cheap still which is nice so I don’t have to feel bad buying them when they don’t match the rest of my collection

i wish they did the delta rainbow sheen with an added cosmos foil or even the glitter foil. i agree, the delta foil doesn’t hit the same.
