Yo! am I allowed to add a pokemon to an official TCG artwork and expand/rearrange the scenery under recreation as long as I adhere to the original art style, and you can clearly tell what artwork it references?
If so sign me up for recreation, otherwise throw me in original creation please and thank you.
@peacock, so Iām clear, you are stating a ācopy pasteā of official Pokemon image from one of the pro artists, and pasting it onto an official tcg background, with the intention of reworking only the background?
Technically you can do this. I have revised OP as that, too, wasnāt clear enough. I intended everything recreation to be done from scratch, but I must allow people to reuse imagery AS LONG AS IT IS CREDITED via references as you stated.
Let me know what you prefer, you can do both categories as well. Keep in mind, scoring on recreation will likely get lower points than other artworks that are made entirely from scratch that recreate or alter original artistsā works.
Thanks for the clarification. Iām not copy and pasting, Iām basically redrawing the background of a card at a different angle, zooming out a bit, and drawing in the pokemon from the art from a different perspective, and adding pokemon. I guess it would be more of original creation in that case.
@peacock, as Boo stated, that is recreation. A recreation is recreating an official Pokemon design, whether it is precisely faithful, or altered. Look at the banner on the OP. The middle left one. They include many examples. Some are exact re-drawings, some are just loose adaptations. If you are redrawing/creating a Pokemon from any card art, whether you are altering, or faithfully redoing it line for line, it is recreation. As the rules state, the background can be replicated or be more original.
Make sense? Original is when you create a whole new vision (or in simple terms, a pose / style) of a Pokemon, with an original background to boot. Original means pretend you are hired by the Pokemon company to create a whole new card art yourself that you are to be credited with.
We are halfway through sign up, so one little bumpāletās get some more artists and enthusiasts alike to hop on the train!
And we will be submitting as planned. Everyone will have the entire week after the sign up period ends (April 4th, 10PM EST) to submit here themselves. We will take the images and put them on page 1 below OP as the gallery, to assist with contestantsā (and E4ās in general) judging.
