Double Holo for Ampharos?

Hi,

I read couple of topics about double holo, it is very clear what is double holo for the Magikarp or Ho-oh for Neo, but the 2 examples I have seen about Ampharos left me so confused.

I had 4 ampahros:

For me, the card 3 looked different because of:

  • this white border around ampharos

  • the holo that is stronger outside the rectangle

  • Even the body has holo on it, like there was a layer of holo after the print:

Does it mean this one would be double holo? or is it just normal?

I was not able to put 4 links in one post, so here is the 4th card that looks like #1 and #2

Double holo for Neo Revelation doesn’t apply to Japanese cards as far as I know. When people refer to the double holo, they are typically talking about English 1st Ed/Unlimited prints.

@kpod is indeed correct, the Double Holos only apply to the English 1st/unlimited edition Holofoil Rares of Neo Revelation (and some of the English Neo Discovery holos as well, like Scizor). But it indeed doesn’t apply to the Japanese sets.

The holo specks on the four examples you’ve posted on the Ampharos itself and in the card description is something called ‘holo bleed’, a different type of error, although very common to see on older Japanese cards (as well as most modern cards regardless of language I might add).

PS: for anyone else confused about the Double Holos for those English sets, here is a nice side-by-side comparison of all the cards (for which the Ampharos without white borders around the Pokémon itself is the Double Holo error variant):

(And CGC also created an article about them.)
