I’ve seen PSA-8.5 quite a lot, and 7.5 I also see sometimes. But I thought some .5 grades were never given before? Today I saw this PSA-1.5 Shining Charizard and it made me wonder if this is the first PSA-1.5 Pokémon card, or if there are more? Are there any .5 grades that have no Pokémon cards at all?
What would the point be of a 1.5 grade? And I am still not sure how a 8.5 grade should be interpreted, although I can see the point in having a more nuanced evaluation in the top grades. If 0.5 grades exist for all grades PSA might as well change the scale from 1 to 20. Or 1 to 40 if they ever introduce 0.25 grades. It would be fun though with a PSA 11 for the truly gem mint cards…
I usually only see .5 low grades for higher end items. I doubt PSA would care to label a card with a 1.5 if the value was under $100. This is probably the reason you see a lot of these on vintage sports.
