I also think that PSA has played a role . . . in my opinion, PSA seems to have been significantly more generous with PSA10’s since they switched to there new labels. I’ve seen many weak 10’s hit the market recently and populations increase more dramatically than previous years. To be fair, this could also be a product of more people grading, but even a cursory glance of YouTube and Instagram shows that there are quite a few people cracking 9’s in hopes of 10’s. I have personally sold several extremely high value cards that were deservedly 9’s only to find out that those who bought them cracked them and resubmitted for 10’s.
Very true. I’m not really a player in the PSA 10 market on the higher end cards, but I even had to pass on some 9s that just didn’t look anywhere close to Mint to me.
I’m not a cracker, but I’ve honestly been tempted to send in some of my better 9s… I don’t know if it’s just PSA hiring a bunch of rookie graders to satisfy demand, but I haven’t been very impressed with them. They even give high grades to dented/creased cards which is unacceptable as it seems to happen quite often. I feel like they don’t take this hobby very seriously.
This is probably another reason why we see an increase in PSA 9 and a decrease in PSA 10 prices.
You’re right. I had my results sorted by price rather than date last time I checked. I saw one sell as much as $2,299(January 30) but it seems it’s more of a $1,500(Late February) card these days. That’s very interesting. I might have to start buying again soon.
Are you sure that wasn’t a best offer listing? Sometimes listings with multiple quantities with best offers don’t appear properly.
Or it could be a shill.
In response to the dip in certain overhyped WotC cards… you’ve got to look at the long game if you want to treat Pokémon as investment now. Think years, not months.
None of the Zards are undervalued anymore. Everyone is quite aware of their existence and their significance to collectors.
Whenever a huge light is shone on an asset and people hype things up there’s always a correction.
It was. I hate what that seller is doing, they list multi quantity items so you can’t even see what the last one sold for, but it was still a $2000+ card back then.
Yeah I know, I was more than expecting a certain retrace. That crazy growth wasn’t sustainable. Some people thought it was, but most of the guys here aren’t really surprised. Long term, I’m not really worried one bit about this hobby.
I also noticed that a lot of people are selling cheap so they can have quick money for college. It will be interesting to see how the summer plays out.
Honestly it is such an awesome card and piece of the Rocket history. Even if the value slightly declined it is one of the cards everyone should try and have. That being said, long term I expect it go up
