That cert # though… What did PSA just work through 10 million cards last week?

I was thinking the same thing – on the website it says “30402462 cards graded” – I’ve been keeping tabs on this number because 30 mil+cards had been graded by the time that my PSA card return results were posted, and yet my cards were in the 28 mils. I was assuming that they updated the website number faster than they actually update the grades, but this might mean that the other way around is also possible…

Edit: Seems like grading # seems to be nonsequential to date graded since I just tried looking up a random 39 mil number and nothing came up.

Edit x2: Grades start @ 40mil+ for cards, but when you look up 39999999-, no card is attached to this cert.

These kinds of maildays blow me away even when I own the cards myself

Aren’t subsets of the cert numbers given out to different categories or something like that? Still odd to be in the 40M then though…

Your card gets a cert number as soon as you fill out the submission form. I don’t believe the cert number is generated after the card is graded.

At one point I tried to create a code that starts a 00000000 and goes to 40000000, downloading information for every cert number that exists. However, it would take a week or so to run. Maybe someone else on here would know a better way to do it.

I’m pretty sure a PSA 10 Tom Brady card was number 30M and I don’t think that happened by random chance.

I notice they do this for crossovers.

Clearly the number doesn’t match the number of cards actually graded. I just got a submission back and they’re all in the 40Ms. I’m assuming that because they gave ‘TCG’ cards a new category, they are now designating them with different cert numbers.

Either that or they graded 10M cards in a few weeks.

There is some odd behavior with the starting cert numbers as well. I checked the first 10,000 or 100,000 (00000000 - 000100000) and there were only a few valid cert numbers. 00000001 is Honus Wagner.

That 10 million card order I sent in last October must have finally logged in… Sorry for the recent delays guys…

But seriously they’ve definitely never been straight up sequential. I think I remember starting a thread a couple years back when I was thinking they were sequential and I was confused by some 90,000,000 cert # or something weird like that. They jump around a bit and go sequential from a few different start points for whatever reason.
