Hey guys and gals. I just picked up a complete GMA graded southern islands set. I’d like to change it over to PSA. Do I send them in the cases they are currently in? Or do I open them up first? What kind of service should I select as well… Any information in the process would be really appreciated.
Thanks!
What are the current grades? If you’re not too concerned about what grades they receive, I would crack them and send them in raw as a regular submission.
If they are currently graded highly, and you only want them cracked they would score at 9 or higher, send them in as a cross grade still in their cases.
@kpod,
I do care about the grades. I paid quite a lot for the whole set. There are mostly 9s, a hand full of 10s and I think an 8 or 2 and 8.5… mostly 9’s and several 10s. What do you mean they would score at 9 or higher? If I send it in with a high grade are they more likely to give it a higher grade than a raw? I’m not knowledgable at all on this. I’ve done just basic submissions. Thanks for the help man.
When you submit a cross grade submission, you can specify them to only crack the current slabs if they determined it would grade at a certain grade or higher. So if your current grade is an 8, you could specify on the submission form to only crack and put it in a PSA slab if it would grade say a PSA 9 or higher. If they look at the slab and determine it would not reach your minimum grade, they would just leave it in the current slab.
A super common example of this is the BGS 9.5 1st base Charizard. Those get cross graded all the time, with a specified minimum grade of a 10. People do not want them cracked and being downgraded to a 9.
very cool. Thanks for the information. @kpod,
another thing is that I believe you need a membership to psa.com to submit, where for others like bgs you don’t. I may be wrong, but groups like ludkins could help you out there
@modestmudkip, thanks man. I’m a member. Just never submitted a cross grade before.
