Hello all, I just wanted to share a fun experience I had recently.
Some of my favorite memories when I was younger are going to flea markets with my grandparents. They would buy me 1 or 2 pokemon packs each time I would go with them and it’s memories like these that have held my love for classic pokemon cards so strong. So that’s a little history before this story, a little background of my intro to collecting cards.
During Thanksgiving while visiting family I decided to clear out an old closet that housed old video game consoles, some cards, and some old figures to make room for the family. I decided to go to a flea market in Charleston, SC that I would visit when I was younger and found a guy who had some base set 2 packs in stock and told me of a store he opened within the last year and let me know they had singles and a few more old WotC packs in stock there also. I inquired with him about selling all of my stuff and seeing what kinda prices we could go through, after all of the bartering we settled on a fair amount of store credit and I just wanted to share some of my pick ups as this was the first time in a while I had the chance to look through old binders and find WotC packs in person and it was a fresh air type feeling after collecting for so many years!
This next picture was pretty much random reverse holos and pickups. I got an extremely OC Base set 2 chansey(not the best condition) which is fun as I always pick up old OC or unique chansey cards when I come across them.
This one is my favorite, definitely don’t expect to find E-series minty holos anywhere when I go out looking
My girlfriend had also never opened up an older pack of pokemon cards, so I picked up 15 Base set 2 packs and 5 Unlimited Team rocket long packs (thanks to the dark dragonite error pull vid) and I let her open 5 Base Set 2 packs and 1 Team Rocket pack and she got some pretty good pulls. She seems pretty excited about getting them graded too with one of my submissions so I think I may finally have her interest into the hobby!
Nice pick-ups! It’s a good feeling going to local card shops and not only helping them out with sales, but also finding some great old-school cards. Talk about nostalgia.
This is so cool! I wish we had more card shops here in the UK that you can just go browse through. I don’t really know any near me that stock old WOTC product. It’s something I really enjoyed when visiting Japan being able to go and flick through binders and look through cabinets of cards.
