I’ve compiled a list of what I am currently missing. From English and Japanese, the main collection, I only have 16 to go. Unfortunately, the Japanese ones have proven impossible for me to find, not to mention the Gourgeist promo that I will most likely never acquire. The English ones left are mostly misprints and errors, the exceptions being the Australia-only 1999-2000 Fossil print and the Expedition Matchprint. Needless to say, my work is cut out for me.

Nice Haunters! I like how you recognize the Japanese Expansion pack opposed to calling it Japanese base set.

Nice collection!

Been doing some light research, but I believe there lies a variant of the haunter fossil holo that comes with a cosmos holo variant rather than the standard galaxy star holofoil.

I do not have any facts on them, just theory guessing, something similar to that guys description. I have only had 4 total holos like that myself which came from the Washington area.

Very interesting that they may very well be the only ones in circulation. And very unfortunate for me, but I’ll keep looking into it. Thank you for looking out!

And update: I have No Rarity, Mysterious Mountains UED, Fossil Ink Error (blue), Queengar, Scream Psyduck, and a 1995 Topsun Green Back on the way.

this was a very interesting card to come across recently.

I don’t know if you are just collecting mass produced errors, but it is very interesting to see part of a 1st ed stamp on the back of the card

If you’re talking about the one from delibird deals that went for $65, then yep that was me. It should be arriving any day now. Now if I can just find the orange ink error…

It’s been a while, so a good bit has happened since the last post!

I’ve rearranged my collection somewhat. After assessing my budget and realizing that some cards just aren’t feasible in the near future, there is now a category of cards I call “Impossibles.” Essentially, items like the Matchprint, UED Base Expansion, Art Academy Gourgeist. There are seven in total, and they are now categorized in a separate section, allowing me to cut down on the unused space in my binder.

The result is a much more complete-looking English/Japanese Haunter collection.









And since the time these were taken, I also received both English Unbroken Bonds Haunters. That brings me up to 77/83 ENG/JP Haunters and I still sit at 0/7 Impossibles. My collection spreadsheet is in my signature if you’re interested in seeing a comprehensive list of every collectible item I can quantify with numbers.

And if anyone has information on a Haunter I don’t have, then I’m all ears. :wink:

Hello there! It’s been quite some time since I’ve updated this thread, and for good reason. In fact, I haven’t actively sought a Haunter since 2021, pausing my collection efforts indefinitely with Chilling Reign. That is, prior to about a week ago.

I recently looked back at my spreadsheet and wondered what I’ve missed in that time, and it was then that I finally got around to adding all of the ENG/JP Haunters (and a few Gastlys) I’d let slip. Today, I finally pulled the trigger on a significant chunk of them. So, to celebrate my loss of money now and in the future in pursuit of the largest Haunter collection possible, let’s talk about some ghosts.

As it stands, my spreadsheet consists of:

  • My main collection, comprised of Haunter cards and cards Haunter appears in, in both English and Japanese. This list contains two misprints I have acquired along the way (see #16 and #76), so take that into account if you plan on using my list as a guide. At time of writing, I have 101/113.
  • A secondary list containing all Haunter cards in all languages up to Unbroken Bonds. This list is woefully out of date, so I’ll have to revisit that in the future.
  • A list of eight cards I have titled “Impossibles,” containing extremely rare items I doubt I will ever find (or afford). It contains some early error/misprint cards (e.g. yellow stain Fossil), the Fossil Cosmo Holo, Fossil 1999-2000 third print, Base Expansion Unlimited, Expedition Matchprint, Art Academy Gourgeist, and Battle Day Acerola. I do not count these toward my collection’s completion anymore, but they would be a nice little bonus. At time of writing, I have 0/8 (and if I ever acquired any, they’d be moved to the main collection).
  • A list of non-TCG cards and assorted other things, also very out of date.

What you see below is the current state of my main collection.













Everything on the last three pages has arrived over the past week (except that first one), leaving a total of 12 cards missing from the main list. The ones I have on the way are:

  • Mirage Forest 039/086 Unlimited (shipped)
  • Arceus LV.X Deck: Lightning & Psychic 005/017 Unlimited (shipped)
  • Lost Origin 065/196 (shipped)
  • VSTAR Universe 047/172 (awaiting shipment)

And the ones I have yet to purchase:

This card does not exist.
E1 only has I think 17 unlimited cards and haunter is not one of them.
The only way I can see it existing is if it gets unveiled by one of the employees of creatures. Where it seems any and all cards are possible haha.

Nice to see another species collector return to the forum! Haunter is a great pokemon to collect, and I’m always happy to see some non-TCG being collected too. We actually recently had a poll rating all Haunter (and Gastly) cards here if you’re interested in how each Haunter card measured up!

I like how you split out the “impossible” cards from the main collection and just view them as nice to haves. I did the same for my species collection (Hoppip/Skiploom/Jumpluff), mostly due to expensive World’s promo cameos and the handful of Expedition demo and test cards (e.g. like the matchprint you mentioned).

The unlimited Blue Shock Haunter will take some dedication (or luck) to find, but we’ll be rooting for success!

Welcome back @circlehunter. Very lovely to have you coming back and also providing an update which is also really awesome to see. As mentioned by @bbobrob it is great that you have already set a few cards aside in the impossible class and view them as “maybe” instead of “must have” which is great line to draw as a species collector. Brings you more at peace with your collection.

Happy Halloween!

Frankly, this couldn’t have been timed any better. Since the last post, I’ve been gathering the few EN/JP Haunters I have left, and as of receiving the last two yesterday, I am now missing ONE card from my main list!

Not only that, but hilariously, the two cards my friend saved for me until yesterday are the 2023 and 2024 Trick or Trades. We’d been planning on meeting up for a trip on the 30th for months, but it hadn’t occurred to me until last week that they were so thematically relevant.

This means that the only card left for me to track down in order to complete my main collection is the unlimited print from XY8 Blue Shock. Insane to me that there’s only one empty space left, but I hope to close it soon!

Np, glad it helped. And awesome progress, especially with your latest update just yet! :smiley: I’ve just searched for a bit (and will now eat dinner later, haha), but unfortunately I haven’t been able to find an unlimited XY8 Haunter. But if I see it by accident later on, I’ll lyk.
And I don’t think you’ve missed anything. Luckily, the SM, SwSh and SV era releases have been pretty straight-forward for most English/Japanese release.
Well, except for the Alpha & Beta Playtest Haunter, two more cards for your “impossible” list. :unamused:

They might of course still be (way) above your budget, but just in case:

  1. I see two Fossil 1999-2000 Haunter currently on eBay for 750-800 USD, lmk if you want me to link it
  2. The Acerola featuring Haunter also has a Simplified Chinese version in case you’d still like this artwork in your collection as replacement for the way too expensive Japanese version. Unfortunately it’s also not too cheap, but better than 10k+. Cheapest I could find on eBay rn is 250 USD - and the eBay seller is a member here, so perhaps you could get a discount :wink:

But I can defintely understand why you have all those other mentioned cards (or even the two I mentioned above) on the “impossible” list. I would love the Art Academy Gourgeist as well for example, but I think it’s north of 15k at this point, if it can even be found at all…
I do like that you have that Stain error Haunter. Those can’t be cheap either these days. I hope you’ll find the missing XY8 unlimited in the near future to complete your main goal! :smiley:

PS:

This one you can remove from your list. Apart from Pichu and the second Charizard art, no unlimited edition E1 cards have ever been shared that were not part of the Pokémon-e Starter Deck, so I highly doubt Haunter exists at this point. EDIT: Woops, I see @mthursty already mentioned this 22 days ago and you’ve already removed it. Mb. :sweat_smile:

Just one left now, and I may very well have a lead on it if things pan out well. Until then though, we’ll have to accept the single gap.

It’s things like this that make me thank my past self for putting these on a separate list. Still way outside the range I’m willing to pay at the moment, but I truly appreciate your help as always!

Ugh, right? I’m probably just gonna have to commission proxies for those at this point unless the skies part and they fall into my hands.

Honestly, proxies for physically nonexistent cards, such as the GB (and now Pocket)-exclusive Haunters, have been on my mind for a time and I’d be interested in that possibility as well. But that’s a problem for future me.

A great sight! Hopefully you’ll find at some point the unlimited blue shock one to fill the empty spot, i’m also hoping that you’ll find the 1999-2000 fossil haunter for a reasonable price since from your impossible list that’s the only one that’s not trophy or unofficial variant so that feels like the most logical one to add in your collection from that list :slight_smile: but no matter if you’ll ever get it the collection looks marvelous!
