Hi everyone. I wanted to see if anyone has experience with Perfect Fit sleeves that are…less than perfect. I collect Pokemon and Magic cards and use KMC Perfect fits inners and Ultrapro outer sleeves. I noticed in a recent pack of 1,000 that the KMC sleeves had “dents” in them (horizontal lines across the sleeve). I tend to store cards somewhat snug in ultimate guard storage containers. I was wondering if anyone had experience with these sleeves damaging cards either tightly packed or otherwise. Thanks!
So, years ago, I found that a pack of KMCs had ‘foggy’ finish, which turned out to be a fine film on the inside. I went to my LGS, told them my issue, and asked to inspect a pack. They were curious to see this as well, and sure enough, same thing. A third LGS, because I’m crazy for the scientific process and a glutton for pain, apparently, had not just this issue, but what were clearly print lines in the foggy finish, inside the sleeve. Does this describe what you mean?
To answer your question, I’ve never had properly fitting, or even mildly snug perfect fits KMC, UltraPro, Dragon Shield, etc, cause damage to the card. If the sleeve felt TOO tight, i’d chuck it. Consider that the sleeve is not elastic, but plastic, and minor deformations often do occur, but don’t damage the card. Now, I was worried about chemical damage with that foggy ‘film’ inside the sleeves.
Here’s something else which might apply to your situation:
I had a pack of the OG Metalized Ultra Pro sleeves which had been sitting so long that the holo circle logo had become warped and protruded from the sleeves. I put cards in each, and squeezed them all into a ultra pro satin tower to try and flatten them. 6 years later, they have finally flattened to where I can use them for play, and there has been no damage to the cards.
They don’t really have a foggy finish, but are more creased. I just didn’t know if keeping them tightly packed may transfer the crease to the individual card. I appreciate the reply!
