Can A 20.76 1st Base Pack Contain A Holo?

Some words get thrown around too much and lose their significance. Maybe I find it funny and annoying since this week I’ve been hearing fam, squad, lit, sus, crib and other words.

It’s the world we live in unfortunately. I try not to get mad at everything. Bad for my own mental health lol

Same. I try to poke fun at it but like other threads I’ve made, I’m more curious about how things than mad.

Yeah…that data is a little sus. All lightest team rocket packs had Holos while the heaviest didn’t?

First of all, Team Rocket is notoriously difficult to weigh accurately. As one should expect, the data reflects that. Second, there’s an incredibly small sample size for Team Rocket. The more data that is gathered, the more reliable the weight/holo relationship is. Third, the data is based on volunteered self-reports. I don’t see any reason why people would lie about the weights of the packs they open. It’s possible that some data points are inaccurate, but I don’t have any reason to believe that they are.

So I don’t see it as remotely ‘sus.’ It seems like a function of the fact that Team Rocket is one of the most difficult sets to weigh accurately and the sample size being tiny.

What makes Team Rocket notoriously difficult to weigh? Aren’t the number of cards, packing material, foil type, etc. all identical to every other WOTC set with cosmos foil?

@garyis2000 , has said previously (correct me if I’m wrong) that he did not favor weighing packs until recently so to expect him to know pack weights just because he opened packs does not make much sense.

That being said, pack weights tend to vary between boxes. If all from the same box then knowing light from heavy should not be too difficult, but packs can vary. Even TCA opened what he “thought” was a light pack and pulled a holo. He also had the opposite happen. ’

I would say @thecharizardauthorty is the best person to ask this question because he has opened a wide variety and weighed the packs. Maybe he can give some insight?

I have no clue why, but this is just the reality with the set. I think it’s pretty much common knowledge, at this point. Maybe someone with firsthand experience could offer an explanation but I’m not aware of any.

As usual, you’re right Joe. I opened boxes, hundreds of them because I didn’t believe in weighing. That’s why I was the go to person for non holo rares. Then it happened, I was the only one not weighing packs lol. So had to do it. Now I have weights but am clueless as to what it means lol. So there was several packs and I weighed them and all were under 20.80. Some as low as 20.3?

My experience is pretty limited with base 1st ed - probably less than 100 packs total opened with under 10 being weighed and opened. I have seen a wide variety with base unlimited. Usually 20.8grams was about as low as I have found for that set. IF even comparable then 20.76 is definitely plausible. Being with a group of packs where many weigh 20.3grams gives it more credibility to have a holo than just a single pack by itself weighing that.

@garyis2000,Well there you have it… If you can not absolutely claim light or heavy then the only thing to do is open one pack up. You know it would be awesome to see at the end of your event Gary! I like it.
