This is such a sick update man. Congrats!
Gawsh it’s so awesome seeing these organized all tightly. Makes me realize how much I love Tanaka’s art and especially Baba’s art!!! Great work as always!!
Thanks Maxy!
Baba’s in my top 5, easily. And that isn’t an easy list to make ![]()
Nice additions! I love Vending but IMO Squirtle/Bulbasaur & Totodile/Chikorita decks are super underrated.
Thanks @lamplamp! Completely agreed, criminally underrated.
I already loved this set but I love it even more now after seeing it organised like this!
Binder pages don’t get much better than that, nicely done!
Beautiful collection! Love seeing all the distinct vending art styles grouped together.
Dude, such nice stuff! I got a good laugh out of the VHS tapes because Totally Togepi was the only one I owned as a kid, I watched that VHS god knows how many times hahah!
Also, I love seeing all the non-TCG stuff, that excites me a lot more these days because I’ve probably seen most of the cards that are out there. The games photos are really cool.
Also, how do you take such nice binder photos?! I’m trying to figure it out, but can never get an adequate lighting arrangement I feel
Hey thanks a lot @pigeonsyndicate! Glad you like it, it always brings me pleasure to mutually enjoy collections. Totally Togepi is such a good 3 episode tape. Bulbasaur’s Garden is one of those few amazing episodes.
And I cannot get enough of carddass cards, any kind. It is just that the '97 that is the best for me. I’d love to even have all the anime stuff.
So I take an LED panel and put it at daylight color temperature (5600k) and set it up at an angle to prevent the most glare. I then use my DSLR Sony Camera and shoot the pics, then color grade them on Adobe Photoshop. That’s what I did for my upgrade photos and what I will do from now on. I am a photographer and work in film so this is how I’m wired to do it haha. But to achieve the same thing you could easily shoot it on a phone with good natural sunlight pouring into your room, ideally directly cast at the pages, as long as you prevent glare as best as possible. And if you don’t have any photo/vid editing software, you could always download a free, cheap program to simply add a bit of saturation, a bit of contrast, and either lighten or darken the brightness, depending on original exposure. Color correction can make even decent pictures look amazing!
Yeah, I always remember the Bulbasaur with the bandaid and everything so clearly. Also Meowth with a deadly bucket of water and scratch combo against Onix haha! If only that really worked in the games.
I did some minor editing to the most recent uploads to my collection post, and that did seem to do a fair bit to make the colors pop more. It is really tough to just snap a photo and have it look amazing I’ve come to realize. LED color panel though, are those easy to get on amazon or something?
Also, I hope you don’t mind, but I’m borrowing some of your organization techniques for my collection post. I really like how intuitive your setup is. Makes it very easy to pop around, but still stay in the actual collection thread instead of bouncing back to Imgur or something.
Haha for sure man we all get ideas from each other and I’m happy about that. I’ve nabbed a few from others and when you see theirs it is obvious!
yes the LED panels are actually cheap and afforable (IMO, in a world where we all spend lots of cash on cardboard), and they come in handy for other things, not just collection threads haha. I use them for ebay listings and many other utilities. I believe I got mine on ebay but amazing all the same works. I just looked one up, similar to mine (they don’t seem to sell mine anymore). Alzo 792 LED panel is $40-50 bucks by the looks of it.
This is my most beloved binder arrangement. I got into Pokemon because of R/B/Y. I love the Gym leaders, their personalities, the lore around them. When the 2 Gym sets came out, I felt like it was the peak of Pokemon artwork and concept. This is my DREAM TEAM!!! of each trainer, a combo of their canonical lineups, my idea of what they would have in a dream lineup, and associative Mon’s that I feel relate to them or vise versa in cases where they aren’t with them directly in the games. One day I want my own trainer card and I can put in a “Master Ball” 9th badge page of me and my own beloved Pokemon. Enjoy
I love this binder set up! Erika and her Pokémon has to be my favorite set of cards from the Gym Challenge/Heroes sets. I might have to do a set up like this with the Japanese cards!
I thought these pieces of magic deserved an update all of their own.
First, is the Dancin’ Imakuni. I am so close to being done with my complete JP Trainer set. This was my final Imakuni. I wanted to go out with a bang on his cards, so instead of grabbing the card alone, I got the disc pack! I picked this up from @acebren via ebay. Don’t believe he knows it was me, so a proper thanks for putting it up for sale in the time I was looking man!
This card is legendary. I mean, all of his are, damnit, but this one ranks high for me. When I got the cd, I popped it in and started dancing like a lunatic and my girlfriend joined in with me cause she knows how I’m like a kid in a toy store with this stuff.
And now there’s this gem. I finally got the holo bleed / double holo Shining Karp! To me, this version is the fullest, the quintessential. It really brings out the whole intention in the depiction. The Shining Karp is truly unique. It stands out amongst the normal Magikarp. The other Karp get lost in the depth of the sea when our eyes are entranced in this focal point of a fish. Where the background is dark and wide, this Karp shines proper, glows in the abyss. It is what makes it one of the best cards in Pokemon, in that pantheon.
It is for this reason that this particular version of this famous card and artwork reminds me of this tune every time. A vehicle that transports me to that time in that childhood basement, occupying my own world.
Lastly, I will leave you today with a postcard pickup, a little bit ahead of the season, my favorite time of the year. A little holiday ornament. An exquisite one, at that!
Congrats (koi)king, amazing pickups! Those postcards always stop me in my tracks
I’m play Donkey Kong Country OST now. The nostalgia hittin hard
Wonderful additions. It’s good that you got the Dance Imakuni together with the CD. These items just belong together. The inserts alone are worth it, not to memtion the insane soundtrack ![]()
And I really liked your little paragraph about the Karp
. You pretty much hit the nail on the head with it being the unique-est of the unique. The Neo Rev “double holos” are some of the most beautiful English cards ever and make this already stunning set even better.
Well, @muk, after you showing just how brilliant the poster is, how could I possibly have been able to resist? Especially considering this is Imakuni merchandise we are talking about? ![]()
Yeah, cards and their special release materials are best when together. (…Just watched the music video for the song “Pokemon Ieru Ka Neo?” Madness! Haha. But the good kind.)
The Shining Magikarp and DKC song are such a great match, @brendantheclayboy! Both are masterpieces. Happy you shared this personal connection with us.
“1 kilometer to the next town.” See ya guys there!
Hah, @taizokai, that music video is a magnificent piece of Pokemon surrealism and euphoria. Just when you think it might be a bland Pokemon kids video, Imakuni blows you away. The filmmaking, the editing, the sequences. All of it is startlingly good.
Glad you enjoyed this round, my friend!
