Brendantheclayboy's Collection - Kinebuchi's Final Boss, a Grail Indeed - 10/31/24

@mcorey777 first of all your collection thread is fantastic. I did enjoy your gym sets–I had never seen your thread, this is great! Did you wind up finishing the Blaine holos? I only saw a couple in that link–maybe I missed something? Anyway, awesome stuff man. Go look at my Gym set post one more time… I edited it to add my recently finished rocket page, which wasn’t originally planned when I made the other ones. It was so great seeing your same idea with the Rocket Trap following the Rocket Holos!

@brendantheclayboy Thanks for taking the time to check out the thread. And I just checked out the update that’s sick. Sometimes even seeing the Commons and uncommons from other people’s collections I get a lot of enjoyment. Beautiful art and there’s the fact I don’t own them yet haha.

As far as the links in my collection thread. I stopped uploading pictures once I started the YouTube channel. All my videos are just of my collection. I’ve spent a good 40k or so putting the collection together. Luckily it’s worth at least triple that by now before even grading. But ya it’s not about the money for me. I simply enjoy the cards.

Okay, so here is my gratuitous Gen 1 binder post. Apologies if there is already a collection on the forum that has this, since it is something we all know and love. But this is my “master” gen 1 set. I have many copies beneath many of the cards, and I have all the art variations from Base, Jungle, and Fossil to complete the sets, but the front lineup of every card is my favorite art work, in cases where there are alternatives from prior sets among the big 3 sets (very few cases where it isn’t the OG card). Shadowless where applicable (naturally), and of course, no Symbol Jungle since they look like base

@brendantheclayboy Thanks for sharing! I loved the organization! It looks so cool mixing up the sets together! I felt myself wanting to move a few cards haha. Like Scyther and Pinsir next to each other Mr. Mime and Jynx lol. Seeing those shadowless cards it really does seem so much better then unlimited. I hope I end up upgrading mine at one point. Looking forward to your next update!

@mcorey777 Thanks man! Yeah if I had “free” reign to arranging them I don’t think I’d ever figure out just the right order

Pokedex order is just dogma for me! Shadowless to me are the definitive base. Much better color, much more symmetrical and stylistically old and pure. Love 'em dearly. I’d love to see you get everything just the way you like it.

I will be posting my gratuitous Gen 2 post very soon.

And here is my gratuitous Gen 2 binder assortment. This one is a tad more exciting than Gen 1, because it allows for a tad bit more variety. There were more alternative illustrations/versions with many of the Mon’s, so I was able to pick between the 4 Neo’s a little more often for 152-251. Holos where applicable (naturally). Had to get Gen 1 and 2 out of the way. They are the core of the collection, and I am still excited about it all–now I can post the rest of my odd balls, one offs, japanese, slabbed singles or sets, etc., moving forward. Trainers from Gym through Neo are incomplete; that will be in the future. But I do have my “Gen 2 energies”. Turn it up to 11

(Wish they did a 2002 promo holo of double colorless… how cool would that have been?)

“Carddass love affair”

These are the greatest Pokemon cards ever. The spirit, the potential, the likeness and imaginative capturing of the imagery of what I picture in the games is embodied in these cards and their artwork. The quintessential Pokemon drawings. Thank god for Ken Sugimori.

My favorites are Golduck, Kadabra, Slowbro, Ponyta, Farfetch’d, Dewgong, Gengar, Krabby, Exeggutor, Mr. Mime, Aeredactyl, and Dragonair. But all of them are just so good, it’s too good to believe. I can’t get enough of the cohesion. Wartortle using Skull bash, then tries it in vain against Mr. Mime.

Slowbro, use Amnesia!

I’ve never really taken a whole lot of look at these until now. There is actually quite a few really fun and cool artwork! I like the Gengar stealing Snorlax’s food from his dream and then him, aggressively charging at what I would assume to be Gengar haha.

Damn, those 1997 Carddasses are true gems. I still don’t see them too often on e4, so thanks a lot for the nice pics!
I remember when a whole set was like 300 bucks only a few months ago but they just keep on climbing. When I finally kick myself enough to pick them up, they’ll be at 5 figures for sure. But even then, that’s well deverved because there’s nothing even close to the aesthetic they deliver!

Right? It’s great to see them being so iconic in their moves, and yes, they are somewhat cyclical, which is another layer deep in the set’s profundity and conceptualism.

I didn’t even think about Snorlax chasin’ down Gengar for stealing the food out of his dream! Fantastic. And poor ditto getting squished, clawed, smashed, and frozen! Psyduck too gets plenty of action.

@muk, my pleasure, thanks for your appreciation! It’s funny–you can get this whole set for half the price of a PSA 6 shadowless Charizard. Insane. INSANE! Hopefully you don’t wait to long. It is funny because they seem fairly hard to come by unless sold in a complete set which pops up from time to time, yet many still have no idea about them so they remain fairly cheap. It’s really just, of course, Charizard that raises the value. Damn Charizard…

But dude they are priceless. I would have paid double to acquire these–even more, and still felt like I underpaid. They sure do deliver. Thanks for looking like always mate!

Great collection! I love the carddass series, I’m working on them myself too. Started with ditto and it’s still my favorite with how goody it looks

@jandkcollections, thank you! Ditto is so fantastic. I would argue it being one of the best, and I was close to putting it in my little favorite honorary mentions. But it certainly is one of the best artistically in my opinion. Trinity Ditto–a legendary in its own right. I wish you the best in acquiring yours, in the condition and at the pace you’re aiming for! Let us all know when that day comes with a collection thread!

Fantastic Carddass set! I’ve often pondered picking some up but it seems like you should really just buy a full set or nothing. The individual listings never seem worth it.

@dreamtech, thanks! Yes, honestly you should just throw the grand or so (sometimes less, sometimes more) and get it over with if you’re serious about getting them–you are right, individually they are pretty pricey. It would be at least twice as much from what I saw this whole year.

Looks like the only active listing on eBay is a little too rich for my blood ($1400), might look at these again next year once some eBay bucks roll in (or if they drop below $1000)

@dreamtech , keep your eyes peeled. A (mostly) NM set just sold for 1k. I was watching it because I was looking for a few upgrade pieces, few of which were holos. That’s how much more sense it makes to buy the set, to put it into perspective haha. But not to worry (competing), I stopped caring after it topped $500, because I’m not that insane! haha.
