I will usually look at Pokemon cards and my response is that they look cool, or the artwork is cute or whatever.
This Poliwhirl had a profound effect on me when I first saw it in high quality detail and I still find myself thinking about it sometimes. The composition is perfect, a Poliwhirl staring at it’s own reflection in the puddles left in the rain. How you read this card is a window in how you view the world and perhaps even how you are feeling right now.
Is it happy?
Is it sad?
Is it simply curious and viewing its reflection in the rain, something it might only rarely be able to do?
It’s hard to tell because whilst anthropomorphized his lack of a human face means that we have to decide for ourselves what Poliwhirl is feeling. Our answers show us how we are feeling, or perhaps how we want to feel.
