Binder Collectors Unite!

@taizokai Hey what’s different in a deck builder binder vs premium ultra pro binder? I use ultra pro or dragon Shield sleeves. Usually black or red. Sometimes white. My binders have zippers are side loading and hold 360 cards a piece

I’m for sure a big fan of binders over graded cards! It is a much more enjoyable way to look through my cards in my opinion. I set my sights too high setting up binders for every set :joy: but I at least have my base through skyridge done.

Is that for real? I thought I was taking crazy pills since I ordered 4 of those from Amazon probably 2 years ago and they were really high quality. Then I ordered another batch and the binder sleeves were really off centered with the left and right columns barely holding the cards.

You have stolen my heart with this thread

I was pretty late to the game coming back to collecting, but I think the main reason why I love binders and only have 1 PSA card (a gift) is thinking back to being a kid with my binder at the Pokemon League with my sister. Even when you go to events now, you see little kids running around with binders and deck boxes and it just makes my soul happy.

The deck builder’s binders hold 480 cards (16 per page) and have zippers. I didn’t realize why they’re called “deck builder’s binders” until I remembered the rule that decks can only have up to four of each card (except for energies).

Ultra Pro has smaller binders with zippers? I bought a different brand for my Carddass set because I didn’t know they were available. (I wanted 9-card pages in order to display the “starting three” and their evolution lines on the first page.)

And yup they sure do. I have two nice suede ones  costs $30 or so each

Couldn’t agree more. I wish I could justify keeping some of my cards in binders, like 1st Edition Gym Heroes and Neo Genesis, but I can’t. They’re too valuable to do so.

Since I’m going to be sending everything out to grade, I’m considering just buying the Japanese versions to put into my binders for the future. They’re a lot cheaper, and it’s just a different stylization that is starting to grow on me the more I’m around the cards.

The vast majority of what I buy is in binder condition. I usually just want the card, and rarely care about resale profits. I know that even damaged cards will appreciate anyways so why do I care.

My binder is coming along nicely here in Japan. Finally completed vending series, have maybe 3/4 of bandai carddass (including the no.000 and the other checklist), as well as 95% of the shiny vault. Other randoms as well like pikachu cards I pick up here and there. I really love the pikachu language set. Those cards have really cool art and Holos plus it’s a relatively cheap set at the moment.

I used to like binders for set building. It was easy to see what holes needed to be filled. Plus it was fun to decorate them.
The biggest downside for me, with ungradeds, was space. I had sooo many sets it was impossible to stick with binders.

Really happy to see this thread take off. I figured there should be a space for Binder collectors to rant about their collections and what interests them about it.

I used to be fully into Ultra Pro Sleeves as well as Binders. Nowadays, though, I double sleeve cards with Perfect Fit & Ultra Pro and then use Legion Dragon Hide binders. I know people have had concerns about Perfect Fit warping cards but over the past 5 years of using them, I haven’t noticed any issues.

I worry about damaging the cards when sliding into perfect fit and also that it will damage the edges. I love the look of the cards in them though. Ultra pro definitely protect but they are a bit cloudy and the card doesn’t look as good

Thank you! and I wish you the same sort of luck as well with all your endeavors!

Also, those 480 slot binders with the sown in pages are awesome. Ive been using them for a while now and the presentation just beats the hell out of the 3 rings by a long shot

Thank you as well!

Yeah, I absolutely love the 480 slot binder for my custom layouts of favorite Pokemon cards, as they allow for more creativity in showcasing my collection.

I like to keep organised with a binder so i can take look through a collection when i feel like it, Its quick and easy which is just what i need so i can appreciate it whenever i get a minute before my 3 year old daughter charges in grabbing everything in sight. :open_mouth:

My favourite parts of my collection will be on display but theirs just not enough room for everything. I have binders for complete sets, Binders for sealed booster packs & Binders for Toploaded cards too! To be honest if i had a lot of PSA graded cards i would probably find a way to store them in a binder as well! :rage:

I went back and forth deciding on how to do it. Ultimately I went with penny sleeves because of cost, but ended up liking them because they don’t move around in the page sleeves because they fill them up more but don’t block the black pages from framing the cards. I thought about the 4 row binders but ultimately decided on the 3 row ones because I like the size better. Since I collect energy cards the 4 row binders didn’t really add anything to the look of my collection like it might with Pokémon.

I’m working on 7 binder sets at various degrees of completion!

Non-holo completed:
Jungle 1st Ed
Fossil 1st Ed
Neo Genesis 1st Ed
Neo Discovery 1st Ed

I’m also working on Neo Destiny, Neo Revelations, and Base set in 1st Ed for my binders  some sets have a few holos to them as well

There’s nothing quite like putting a card in a binder sleeve, and being able to flip through pages of cards you worked hard to get!

Don’t get me wrong, I love to look through binders as well. It’s almost overwhelming in a way to see that many colorful cards looking at you at once…you almost get lost in it all as you turn the pages.

But c’mon guys, PSA cards all the way!!! Lol

Nothing like holding a super clean PSA slabbed card in your hands. Let’s be honest lol.

It’s like it’s own separate Art Holder in a way.

Absolutely binders all the way. I have a small area where I can display a handful of slabs but that’s it. I feel like a graded card is for a special circumstance. I don’t know how a person is supposed to display or easily look at 100s of grades cards.
Paying a massive premium to make you collection harder to look at makes zero sense to me in most instances.

@crushingame, if we’re talking about individual cards, sure, a slabbed card is cool to look at. But if I were invited to look at a collection and they were all slabbed… Nah, I’ll pass. XD I agree with @sacari, here. Special cards in a case are nice.

When it comes to binders, what made you all decide on the binders you have now? I know I used to have Ultra Pro binders or Pokemon binders before I really started dropping money on quality binders - reason was that the plastic of each page would wear out too quickly and then dull the image.

Has anyone ever created a PSA binder that actually looks nice? I have a pile of 1st Ed base that I’ve been planning to crack for my binder, but I’ve had bad experiences cracking before and with the new prices on some of these cards I don’t know if I’ll be comfortable. I’m thinking about designing a binder that hides the psa label and plastic case by overlap – basically putting a black layer over 6 or so psa cards so that only the cards themselves are visible, kind of like framing them except the frames would be small (but obviously quite thick) turnable binder pages

I got my particular binders (VaultX) because I could get them in multiple colors, and they zip closed which gives me a little more peace of mind. I’m pretty sure the black side-loading pages themselves are exactly the same in any binder. Probably all made in the same factory in China and each company just puts the pages in their own branded cover.
