BGS 10 vs PSA 10

I can’t believe in the good old 2024 people still think Loga Paul came into this hobby as a collector.

Are you trying to suss out how the market would be if your LC were to hit a 10? No doubt it would fetch a premium. Someone would pay more than PSA but how much more is up to the market to decide.

Ah the good old days when BGS screwed Gary over but hooked up Logan for the clout

Thats one of the more tame psa 9-10 premiums Ive seen. If i wanted that card i’d probably buy the 10

bgs 10 gold is a lot harder to get than psa 10. i wouldnt really go out of my way to find them but if i see one selling for around a psa 10 price i will generally buy it.

I dunno honestly
I cant find anything other than a guy listing one for $30k on ebay

There might of been a private sale or something

But yeah i think he pulled that number out his behind

Just out of his ass

It sold for $18k before? Or am i misreading that?

Thats still a very high number. The error unlimited version only sells for ~$2k

$17,500 is the high. Of course there might be 2024 private data not recorded.

Oh thats reverse zard

He was talking about the guy from the video who has a blaines and puts a 30k price tag on it
We’re trying to figure out where he got that number from
Possibly just made it up

Oh I’m sorry, I misunderstood. There’s no shot that the corrected Blaine’s Charizard is $30,000 when a PSA 9 sells for $900.

I think you’re forgetting that it has a fire energy sir. I can see investors lining up for miles already

Well for a comparison that is not completely analogous to your hypothetical legendary collection BGS 10 zard, I own the only BGS 10 Reverse Skyridge Charizard. No its not the regular holo, but arguably just as rare and harder to grade.

We can see the PSA pop report here for the Skyridge Charizards

20.9% of the regular holo have been graded PSA 10 GEM MT
13.4% of the reverse holo have graded PSA 10 GEM MT

At BGS

Regular Holo
0.4% (1) graded BGS 10 Pristine
21.1% graded BGS 9.5 GEM MT

Reverse
0.8% (1) graded BGS 10 Pristine
18.6% graded BGS 9.5 GEM MT

Based on these numbers we see many more submissions are going to PSA than BGS. So right away we see PSA is preferred. We also see that technically, the reverse is quite a bit harder to grade and perhaps just as rare as the regular holo.

Yet taking into account that almost everyone prefers the normal holo from this set, and the fact that Skyridge (and legendary collection) is not base set, and I am not certain that I can find a buyer that would pay as much as a PSA 10 Holo Skyridge Charizard goes for, let alone significantly more - even if the BGS 10 reverse is significantly more rare.

So thats where you end up with high end BGS WOTC. Finding the right buyer, to pay what you think the card is worth, is much harder than finding someone that is willing to pay for a PSA 10. The people with that kind of money are also more discerning buyers and have large collections already. For the average collector with the money, the difference in eye appeal and collectability between a PSA 10 and a BGS 10 is negligible, while the difference in price is extremely appealing - even if for the more discerning eye there are clear issues with the PSA 10 and the BGS 10 is arguably much more rare - they’ll probably go PSA.

This pretty much says it.

I would go with PSA because it simply represents more substance. There are numerous grading companies now, but what do they represent? Yes, BGS is second (to PSA), but still, why go for second.
