Outside of Pokemon, BGS does quite well: MTG, Dragon Ball Super, One Piece, Weiss, etc.
Soon to be number 4 thanks to SGC
It’s a shame BGS didn’t actually pull their finger out, I actually really like their slabs!!
I know this is an old thread but I think it’s conflated with the concept of modern
would ANYONE rather have a wotc psa 10 over a gold label though? I highly doubt it
like imagine getting a charizard card in a bgs 10
For example LC reverse zard is pop zero
imagine having the only one in the world. This would likely balloon to be a 6 figure card, I think essentially everyone in this thread is comparing modern though which is understandable
If I graded a bgs 10 charizard I would immediately sell. Even if it increases in value down the road. What you can buy with that capital is more valuable to me and I would imagine most collectors. Especially since I could just buy the same card in gem mint condition for a fraction of the price, and the person buying the bgs 10 would value it more than myself, ultimately a win/win.
I would
This is true, because bgs 10/cgc pristine basically dont exist for vintage wotc so it’s only really feasible to compare ultramodern
i would imagine logan paul would get in on that.
It probably bothers him that there are 3 gold label 1st ed zards. and someone else has 2 of them. Yes he has illustrator, but there are guys in dubai with absolutely insane collections. and he absolutely does not have the best charizard collection and zard is the most iconic
to have the only bgs 10 in the world? with same artwork. classic charizard but LC wotc? with a brand new cert? He would want to grab that and finally make claim to owning the best Pokémon collection in the world.
that thing would probably go for hundreds of thousands not even exaggerating.
even if you would rather hold the psa10 for whatever reason. you would easily want the bgs, so you can sell it and easily buy yourself a psa10 with a boatload of money to spare
It is subjective, but I feel like he’d need a lot more than that to “make claim to owning the best Pokémon collection in the world”
I agree but he has good stuff already hes not a 1 trick pony. Having a pop 1 vintage Charizard would do a lot to help that claim. I cant imagine the big guns not getting into a bidding war over that card
I don’t think Logan Paul is really engaged with the market at this point.
For me, I’d take 20 PSA 9 copies over a BGS 10 all day
I would so much rather have a PSA 10 than a BGS 10 - any difference in money I would happily just use to buy other cards. Also, perhaps not relevant to this discussion but I strongly dislike BGS’s slabs and would probably pay extra money to not have to look at one in my collection, haha.
I too would much rather have a PSA 10 than a BGS 10. If the BGS 10 has a huge price differential, I would sell it and buy the PSA 10 or PSA 9.
And just to be clear, this isn’t because I don’t like BGS. I own BGS slabs and use them for vintage MTG. I just don’t believe in conditional rarity and would much rather have the cash from some buyer who does.
20 copies
yes for us peons, (dont mean to offend anyone) we would sell the bgs because of that extreme price differential
these 6 figure cards are for the millionaires who want bragging rights.
But you would want it nonetheless
you would want it to sell it and make those sweet sweet gains
I would still enjoy it for a few weeks. take a bunch of pics
remember that I was the one who owned that card that youtubers keep mentioning in videos and just smile.
20 years down the road, remind ppl that I once owned the 1 of 1 gold label vintage zard
I’d be very curious to know if bgs 10 buyers are also bgs graders. Because from my experience there is no way you’d pay that premium if you graded with them more than one time
I doubt they grade for the most part if they dont have to. They just wait for the market to create the card they want and buy it up
Logan Paul had to grade his BGS 1st ed zard because there were none available to buy. He literally went to the guys house with a suitcase full of cash and the guy still said no. so he had no other option
the bgs 10 buyers are the millionaires who want bragging rights. To make sure ppl know they have one of the best collections. It brings them great joy knowing they have the special thing that is exclusive and nobody else has
Obviously it’s someone who doesnt mind dropping potentially house money on a piece of cardboard
It would be someone exactly like this
but with more money available to drop on something even crazier
obviously bgs wotc zard would be an outlier. But even something like a gold star Rayquaza or something of that caliber would bring out the big guns.
I referenced LC reverse zard because its pop zero, its wotc, and its the classic zard artwork. so this would bring the kind of unreal premium that would bring headlines.
Reminds me of the 30k bulbasaur
I would probably pay a bit of a premium for black labels as I just enjoy the label itself with it all. I don’t own any right now, but want to try to find one that fits well with the overall aesthetic of the card. Not sure how much of a premium I would pay for that though as I haven’t found one that I would drop $$$ for.
For example the play mew on Fanatics sold for 3k while Psa 10 sell for 450. Huge premium imo on this one. I would probably pay 1k, but not much more than that.
Logan Paul ain’t buying anything he can’t put on his fractional marketplace or flip in some manner.
