Penny Sleeves + Ultra Pro premium binder. I tried every sleeve combination and penny sleeves were the best; protection, not too thick, decent visibility. Visibility is always the cost of sleeves, I found penny’s to be the best overall.
Have you tried the Ultra pro premium sleeves? I ask because they are clearer than penny’s in my experience. For a slight uptick in cost the clarity was worth it for me.
This. Although I mostly use the zipping Ultimate Guard binders now. But Dex Protection binders are great, too; I have a few that I still use. For those getting clear Dragon Shield sleeves: buy the classic ones (as opposed to the matte). The classics are equally clear on both sides of the sleeves (it’s basically like a super heavy gauge penny sleeve), whereas the mattes have a matte side that is less clear. I personally like looking at the backs of my cards without having to desleeve them.
And I also use KMC perfect fits, which protects the card surface from particulate matter (like dust). I use a microfiber cloth to first wipe the surface of the card before sleeving it in a perfect fit (to make sure there’s no particulate matter on the card). I strongly recommend using perfect fits if you’re collecting high grade (PSA 8/9+) binder sets. If your sets are more in the PSA 7 or lower range, then perfect fits probably aren’t worth it. But for clean cards, dust can cloud the surface and scratch the holofoil. If you don’t believe me, just look at what happens over time to foil Magic decks that aren’t double-sleeved. But with double-sleeves, you’re pretty much 100% preventing the risk of clouding/scratching.
I think I now prefer double sleeves. I used kmc perfect fit and kmc super series. But I find I can sometimes damage card puting it in even though it rarely happens. But also putting a card in perfect fit with a few nicks like a psa 7 can also make the nick bigger too I find. But If you can get it in cleanly, then double sleeve does offer best protection in binder I think
I’ve never had issues with damaging cards while putting them in perfect fits and I’ve sleeved exactly 3000 Pokemon cards in them (I bought the $70 for 30 packs on Amazon and I just ran out lol). You probably aren’t doing it optimally; I’m sure there are guides online about how to do it. But yes, I totally agree. I’m confident that double-sleeving is the objectively correct way to store cards in binders. Although I think it’s not worth bothering with unless you’re collecting fragile, high-grade cards.
But for PSA 9+ quality e-Series and early EX Series reverse holos, perfect fits are especially important, IMO. And if you like to handle your cards a lot, perfect fits become even more important. Because when you take cards out of binders, it’s inevitable that a tiny amount of particulate matter will get in the sleeve. And you definitely don’t want your cards to come into direct contact with it.
92 times 66 , I think dragon shield are a little bigger too but the other way around 91 times 67 although it doesn’t say it any where on package but I seen somewhere it was that. I tried hyper Matt kmc but that was 91 times 66 and felt way to tight to double sleeve and I think most ultra Pro are 91 time 66 so maybe no good to double sleeve with. Best to stay with kmc super series or dragon shield for double sleeve
I buy them on a French website, but I think you can find them on Ebay.com (try searching “KMC Wversion”) or any random US website with stuff for cards.
I would suggest to purchase just 1 pack to test the sleeves before buying a lot of packs for your entire collection
I opened a elite trainer box champion path pulled nothing but Holo of course at least I got my Charizard promo straight to penny sleeve and toploader. I have all kind of sleeves in binders ,penny sleeves ,double sleeves ,singles deck sleeves, clear sleeves. Some I really like some I dislike but they are staying in that way.
So I thought I might as well try and complete champion path in binder as only around 80 cards minuis the Charizard and decided on perfect fit from kmc on its own which I weirdly haven’t tried yet and I was surprised how clear and good they looked to me. But what surprise me the most was the ease of getting it in the binder sleeves and taking it out, it was almost like a perfect fit for binder sleeves. Where other sleeves like you maybe somestimes have to push a little he harder to get in or pull a little harder to get out or a bit filmsy. So I think I am going to start doing that more for my Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon cards
