Bank card theft

The issue here would be that credit cards aren’t widely accepted everywhere here. Certain supermarkets do not accept visa, even if it is the debit card version, and no credit cards of any other types whatsoever. Debit all the way here everywhere. My ex had a credit card but hardly ever used it, and never heard of the “cashback” thing existing for credit cards here. The most commonly used credit cards here are little prepaid creditcards wich people will use to order things online, or to take with them on vacation. Paypal isn’t that well known yet here either so ye.
To us living in Belgium, a credit card is something that only costs you money, since buying on a credit card has extra fees, whereas the debit cards do not. And seems like mostly people that use it here use it to buy things they can’t really afford in the first place.

Yeah I feel like it’s the same here in Finland @stephneechan I have never heard about any cash back stuff etc with credit cards here. Looks like credit cards have a huge difference between Europe and the US. I’ve heard of the extra fees too and how it’s easy to get in trouble with the payments. So I got very confused as here I feel like credit cards are complicated while there are people saying how great they are. I won’t say they aren’t great, it really depends on how they work and I think the system around them is too complicated in Europe compared to the US. So there’s some improvement to do here.

This is so unfortunate when it happens. I understand it’s upsetting not knowing how or when but really it’s almost impossible to pin point that info. It could have been stolen a year ago and just now sold to someone who is just now using it or it may have been a place you frequent or just happened to stop at last week. This is quite extreme but don’t use you bank card other than at the bank or bank owned atm. The fraud and claims process for bank card fraud is difficult and usually results in out of pocket. Credit card is usually a much easier claims process. Despite the pin and chip it’s really not that difficult to mimic the card.

also cash is always a sage option.

That smelly dirty green paper stuff? Yuck who uses that. How do I send it through my computer for eBay purchases? How do I make exact payments so I don’t worry about having to carry around heavy bulky “change”? Oh the only way to do that is to carry change with me? And if I lose any of it it is gone forever? I’ll pass.

On a serious note I actually know several people who don’t use cash whatsoever in their day to day lives. I fully expect my grandchildren to never use paper/coin currency in their lifetimes, maybe even my children not doing so. It will be a thing of the past before you know it, but I agree carrying cash is a good idea as you never know when it may come in handy. Somehow there are still places around not accepting CC.

All the Chinese takeaway places

Did you call your bank back to verify this? Sometimes scammers pose as banks and call for your information to STEAL your information.

@elam18 Yes it’s definitely was my bank. They have a certain official phone number they call from. And they send information to my web bank where only I can log in with my personal account which has nothing to do with the bank card information as they are separated information. So no worries there at all. Everything was genuine and I’m in progress of getting my money back. Plus they didn’t ask anything shady during the phone call.

Just FYI spoofing a number is extremely trivial. I can set my ANI/CLID to whatever I want.
