Australian TCG history

G’day efour forum.

Just a question in relation to when the Pokémon TCG came to Australia. I’m only 20 so please forgive me. I’m wanting to know what sets did or didn’t make Australian shores… I don’t believe any 1st edition base came, I remember having a lot of base set unlimited from my siblings. (got thrown in the fire because we fought over them to much) I know right, devastating.
Did aquapolis, skyridge, expedition come etc. I just can’t remember as I was only a young wiper snapper

Taa, Thanks guys.

We got the e-series.

I opened a Skyridge box when I was 7.

An interesting set that made it to Australia is the 1999-2000 fossil set. This set came in the red logo fossil packs and only non holos had the different copyright date.

The only holographic card from the set is Zapdos which came from the tempest theme deck. The tempest box had a wider release then the red logo packs and was not just in Australia. Therefore all the fossil cards featured in the theme deck are generally not as scarce as those that only come from packs.

I recall having a few Shadowless cards back in 1999/2000 and still have a Shadowless Chansey from that time period, so we may have had a small amount of Shadowless boxes over here

We also had 1st edition Neo Genesis which is the only 1st edition set I personally ever saw on the shelves

Think we also had 1st edition team rocket

We had everything minus 1st Ed Base, 1st Ed Base didn’t even make it to all of the US mostly the west coast and a few select stores outside that area. Makes you wonder what the first 1st Ed Base card/product was that came to Australia!

Hello,

i’ve been collecting since the start. All sets were release (minus base 1st). Funnily enough, in my community, expedition to skyridge was quite heavily collected, as we had a mini spike in interest as we were all hitting year 8 at high school and a group of da boyz decided to get into it.

As for what waas available in large supply at target/kmart, i don’t know. i use to buy all my cards from a shop called card mania in Geelong, was epic. They even use to sell singles, every kid wanted that damn charizard, it was about $100 back in 99.
