Ive been saying this for years. Shinies should have been 1 per box or case, something of the sort. Never needed to mass produce shiny sets

Small specialty expansions need to become the future. Quality > Quantity. I can understand the need to continuously push out sets for competitive play, but there is no reason to make them 250 or 300+ cards so often.
Base through XY had very reasonable sized sets around 150 cards or less. It wasn’t until the later part of Sun/Moon, SW/SH, and S/V where the set size bloated to 250 or 300+.

Id like more cards akin to radiants and amazing rares. They add a bit of spice to the sets and can look great in binders. Sets are still too big and pull rates are still too low, even for the smaller sets english has been getting. Otherwise, I am not complaining. I have somewhat stopped opening modern, though I think the sets just havent appealed to me as of late.

I think they should take a note from the Pocket TCG app and re-release older cards as a shiny variant (but with actual art - think more the SH cards) and drop the pull rate to something abysmal like 1/8000 packs. It would basically be the most organic way to add the equivalent of serialized cards.
And as always, they should do this
Plus just make the themes better. “Pikachu”, “Eevee” and “Charizard” are not themes.

they literally did that though. Gold card rarity is about 1/100+ or something. SIR is 1/75 ish. And in Japan, not only is it not just a boosterpack of bulk, but its an entire preconstructed deck of bulk for a 1/1000+ odds to get stuff. So…we are already there.

Should any equivalent exist? It feels like some volatile expectation that modern chase card values must scale up with vintage card values right now instead of waiting as long as vintage has to seek growth. It isn’t going to make TPC print less bulk or have bulk become more valuable either

I think it’s exciting and opens a new category for people that like actually rare cards/species collectors.
The entire booster pack experience is a gambling/lottery. As much as people may not like it, the more exciting the lottery is the better the product is.
Imo you can’t do both of these things simultaneously

It’s a product “more people want to open” instead of keeping sealed, rather than “people want to open more of”. It should be something that leaves more people feeling content, ideally with set completion, because there’s already so much unchecked dopamine addiction going around

I think we are in a situation where what’s best for the consumer (us) and what’s best for the Pokémon company are two very different things. Making sets smaller, increasing the amount of art/illustration rates, or printing more are all things that TCPI are capable of doing.
They just don’t have to right now. Demand for product is near all time highs and doesn’t show signs of slowing.
So am I satisfied with how things are going? As a consumer not really but as a collector I think we are very lucky to have an incredible amount of high quality art available at relatively low prices.

Don’t know if it is in the near future or not but I think our current trajectory will bring us to a junk wax era at one point. I don’t see how it does not end up there with print production only increasing every year. Demand does not stay this high forever.

I meant the alt arts like EVS Umbreon #215 … Imagine a 1/100 chance of it being a secret shiny card with the same art ;).
We’ll be at 1/1,000,000 pack pull probability in absolutely no time. If people keep consuming that chase in large quantities it’s inevitable that it will happen at some point… Unless interest drops off a cliff and you can bet money that Pokémon will carefully attempt to hold the balance.
Such untapped potential, They could’ve added some slightly different text flavour like replace Vmax with Gmax and a throwback Gold Star Icon.

It already is junk wax era for certain rarities. The full arts of SM-onwards will never reach BW/XY levels because of how much is printed but also because they look mostly terrible and outdated. At the same time, one could argue that the main chase is still underprinted but since they don’t exist in a vacuum but with all other cards in their rarity tier, there’s not much that can be done without devaluing everything else even more.

I wish they would do a pause. Like a one year hiatus without any release. Give us some time to breathe, to appreciate and reconsider the past sets.

I think it would be cool if they brought back the aspect of wanting to complete master sets. I think the best way to do that is to decrease the cards in each set, as others had already mentioned.
I also think the different rarities need to to be consolidated in each set. Allow collectors to actually appreciate the different chases as opposed to the top few chases completely drowning out the rest of the great cards in thee set. Feels like there is too many, but maybe I’m too old-schooled with this perspective. Maybe even alternate the different rarity classifications between sets/eras.
I think Pokemon (re)introducing the UR Gold cards and attaching the difficulty in pulling those cards is a nice and needed touch. During the last three eras, the scarcity of a card was more due to the fact it was difficult to pull a specific SIR as opposed to a the rarity classification itself.

Shinies are a very good idea, I remember the rayquaza and umbrella fan made cards were surfacing as leaks a few years ago

One more thing,
- Make booster boxes for special sets
Designing a near-300 card set such as Ascended Heroes then only supplying products with 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 11 packs with little means to meet the deadlines of a staggered release schedule is ridiculous

I think another factor they could look at is to actually increase the cohesiveness of cards in terms of theme for each set; does not have to be limited to one theme. Nowdays although the artwork is top notch, except for special sets like 151/team rocket, cards from one set are all over the place theme wise and from a collecting perspective, people just zoom in to collect the ones they like. No one feels like they are missing out on any pieces if they dont complete the masterset/ one of the sub themes in the set.

set cohesion is quite good usually…in Japan. The most cohesive sets are near 1:1 sets from japan. Journey Together, 151, Obsidian Flames. Mask of Change was a wonderful themed set in Japan, Twilight Masquerade, not so much. The Glory of Team Rocket, S tier. Destined Rival, orange juice and toothpaste the set.
