Most days, I would say so. It took me several years before I felt truly proud of my collection. Until then, I felt half-baked because I was juggling many incomplete goals.
In 2026, I am beginning to feel half-baked again due to breaking up parts of my collection. I know it is temporary, but I am eagerly looking forward to that feeling of (near-)completion and pride once again.
This is how I feel currently. A lot of goals and not a lot of completed ones yet.
There’s one big goal that I’m working toward and I think once I get that I’ll feel really proud of it. And it’s not to say I don’t like/enjoy my collection quite a bit, but when I think of being proud of it it pulls on something different for me.
There are still many cards/postcards on my goals list, but 2025 and 2026 have really been a time where I’ve started to feel proud of my collection. The boom has allowed me to consolidate and end up with some really fun stuff.
I’ve always enjoyed my collection, but made the mental jump to pride recently.
Yeah, I’m pretty proud of my collection, although not all goals of my collection have been achieved and some goals became impossible to achieve at the moment.
Right now I have some cards that seemed to me out of my reach a few years ago and this is make me proud.
I personally lean towards not proud yet. With emphasis on the yet, because I’m confident it will happen eventually.
When I started out, I collected random cards that seemed cool to me. It ultimately felt like a random assortment of cards. However in the past two years or so I realized my love for ex cards and pivoted to a focused collecting style. This has brought me immense satisfaction and a clear focus for the future.
I’m not sure about E4’s rules on youtube links, but there’s a video by Sports Cards Anonymous (who also happens to collect some pokemon) on building a meaningful collection. He seems very collector focused and hits on a lot of points I agree with in his video.
Should be easy to find, but I’ll post a link if it’s wanted and allowed.
Very much so. I wasn’t an early bloomer like many others here but started in 2017. Wish I bought more stuff when it was dirt cheap, although I bought plenty. And wish I didn’t sell other items, but everything I did led my collection to where it is today, and I’m happy with it. I’m very lucky to own all of the things I have in my collection. All that I’ve sold has allowed every piece of it to be free which is a nice feeling.
I would give anything to go back to the 2017-2019 years of Pokemon collecting for me. So much discovery, so many great interactions with people who just loved Pokemon.
Sometimes I feel like I’ve become spoiled with the prices that Pokemon has reached and I’ve lost that innocent feeling I used to have just looking at the cards and feeling this overpowering sense of nostalgia and longing for the childhood I wish I could have back. I definitely still get that feeling nowadays and I cherish it. It’s my sole purpose for collecting. I want to remember the past and all of the memories from it.
I definately do, I feel most proud of it when I look through binders with my daughter and she points out which cards are her favorite
Completion isn’t everything! I too have many incomplete goals and full sets but just talking about and sharing your collection can give you a lot of pride too!
Be proud of your collection as it is now, any additions in the future is a bonus
No, I see it as a personal vice. The memories attached to the cards were born from a different cultural and social landscape with low financial barrier to entry to a genuine, “organically good” experience. They now represent a physical reminder of a better past at the cost of significant imprisoned capital. As I age and my responsibilities change, the more the morality behind keeping that capital locked-away in non-essential nostalgic childhood paraphernalia falls into question. In other words, I just need to be rich and this won’t be a problem.
I’ve never been one to feel pride for anything, but I suppose if there’s anything I’m close to feeling much a thing for, my collection is in the top 5. I do adore my collection though, as they’re all cards that I actually enjoy, and while I’m sure there is someone who never posts anywhere online that may also have a near complete, or even a complete topsun prism set (all prism patterns for both label variants), out of everyone I know that collects topsun i am the closest by a long shot, and I like that.
I’m not quite proud of my collection yet but I am proud of the goals I have set out. I was originally chasing every card for every ghost type pokemon but that is very unrealistic for me to do. Switching to all Rotoms narrows it down to something that’ll keep growing for a long long time but is still manageable, I’m pretty proud of myself for being able to take a look at the scope of my original project and decide it isn’t something I should pursue.
Definitely. When I browse through my collection or when I was working on updating my ‘Pikachu around the World’ collection posts[1], it sometimes still surprised me with how far I’ve come with that Pikachu collection in particular. It may not be complete, likely never will be, and I may have adjusted its original collection goal at the 25th anniversary, but at the same time I’m a.f.a.i.k. one of just two people in the world who have all English Pikachu TCG cards in my possession, and I’m almost reaching 2k unique Pikachu cards.
I mentioned it a lot of times before, but even though Pikachu isn’t even in my top-25 favorite Pokémon, I still enjoy collecting it a lot since it’s got so much. It got cards in every era; every TCG language; loads of unique country-specific releases; dozens of amazing illustrators have made at least one Pikachu TCG cards. By just collecting Pikachu like this, I’ve gained A LOT of knowledge about the TCG across the different languages, and have shared this in my collection posts, articles, or just random PMs with other collectors.
So yeah, I’m quite proud of my Pikachu collection and how far I’ve come after eleven years. If someone would state I’d have a collection like this when I started mid-2015 I wouldn’t have believed it.
And that’s just the Pikachu collection. I’m also proud of all my other collection goals, like everything Seviper (both TCG and non-TCG, including all languages and cameos); FA Supporter/CHR collection; raw/sealed/graded Moltres WotC #21 promo collection; etc. etc.
Especially this year, where due to lacking funds I’ve barely bought anything (yet), I’ve had some time to just look at my collections and enjoy what I already have.
Greetz,
Quuador
(I still have a bunch to update btw, but all languages except for English/Japanese are up-to-date again, and halve the other parts are up-to-date again as well. I hope to finish updating all of those posts, and all my articles, this year.) ↩︎
Im proud of my collection due to the memories I have invloved with it.
I started early enough when pokemon was cheaper (2015/16) and had help usually make larger purchases at the time from my mom if I was short a little.
I still have most cards I bought before everything started really changing, so I look on those cards fondly.
I’ve been able to meet and talk to artists with friends and family and get some awesome cards signed/sketched. Those are definitely some of my favorite memories.
I look at the memories I had with sorting out lots of collection purchases from mercari jpn with my late dog watching me from my bed. This is a huge reason I haven’t graded any of the holo cards or promos from these purchases even though most could 10, I rather just see them in a binder or raw, same as they were when I got them.
Also, my memories extend past tcg collecting such as playing Pokémon Omega Ruby when sick from school, or just watching the anime on Saturday mornings. So when I look at my collection, all those memories come back to me.
