Alpha Investments anyone?

Figured this is off beat so i put it here, but I was curious if anyone else enjoys watching Rudy from Alpha Investments on Youtube. I havnt been a Magic player since around 2004 (then i tried again 2012 but just for fun) but his videos really make me laugh and the content is great all across his channel in terms of collecting just in general, so I just figured id ask others thoughts here (as im watching his latest videos and ignoring the super bowl as im not a big sports fan haha).

I think he’s the most entertaining/most listenable to guy on YouTube. I literally know nothing about Magic. But I find myself watching a ton of his videos listening to him talk about magic shit I don’t know a lick about :joy:. It’s just interesting to see someone in that position being transparent about the TCG business.

I think there are multiple people here on the forums who enjoy his content. I don’t collect Magic cards but I do enjoy his content, humor, and some of his content can be applied to Pokemon collecting as well. I first got into watching Rudy by watching his card store videos. I think it’s been a while now.

@dbruze, I agree 100 percent! I feel ive almost learned more about magic through him, but even without knowing just his sheer honesty and approach is such a draw in and really entertaining to where it makes you want to keep watching. I actually just found an older video of his opening 2 burning shadows booster boxes and Rudys commentary is just great haha. I feel hed be a really fun dude to just hang with too

I love his content as well for the same reasons as you, if magic’s earlier sets weren’t so prohibitively expensive I would probably collect those too. I really like his videos where he sorts collections that he buys from older players and you get to see binders full of old cards that are hard to find now. I imagine it’s the same feeling I’d get flipping through a binder full of 1st edition base set haha

I think most of us here drop in from time to time. He’s actually done a bit of Pokémon content too.

Wait what…

hahah I love Scott and Rudy both equally in their own unique ways . Im curious though also whod youd say is @missingno ?!

He’s a former collector and participant here. A pain in the arse but actually a nice guy.

You misread old timer…and don’t patronize me.

@Dizzle I think Gem Mint Pokemon Is most listenable.

@garyis2000, oh no! I meant, who M thought was the most listenable guy on youtube haha (in his response to dbruze).

But yeah, i already know to assume that everyones majorly nice here regardless lol

im loving this thread.

But I see @missingno, thanks for that. Never watched that channel myself, but guess that will be my next venture!

I’ve been subbed to Rudy since he had less than 100 subscribers … that said I don’t watch him anymore. His content is boring, he does too many box openings, his memes are old and most of his videos are fear mongering, obviously pumping his own agenda and presented in a way where they’re technically not incorrect but he’s putting forth an obviously biased view and obscuring points that would harm his argument.

Edit: Most of his videos are geared towards generating youtube ad revenue over actual interesting content now too - his first 6-12 months of videos were actually good/interesting.

@pierce, ah man really? I could see that though, as youve been subscribed to him way longer than i so youve probably seen the different phases and eras a lot of youtubers could be seen going through in time, but i could see that being true in certain aspects of him. But that being said, I still enjoy him regardless for the time being as aside from his business side of things, I just take him for a funny dude who just does what he does. I actually enjoy the box openings just to have on to pass time through his commentary while doing some work, but it can get stale as I too have noticed its pretty often. The thing with the openings though is for me being someone not really into Magic anymore it gets me to see some cool cards and whats circulating too, so theres that, but i do value your opinion here as well and appreciate that share as I felt there could be others who might not be into him due to how he is (or in this case, how his channel has changed)

I love no pants Rudy

My exact thoughts, although I was not as early watcher (Started at about 10k). I did enjoy early content but now its all made for views/box openings. This may also due to the reserve list buyouts which made for exciting times and good content imo.

I don’t know. I think some of his stuff is really, really interesting. I don’t watch his box openings or anything (because I don’t collect Magic), but once in a while he will post long-form financial videos or just do stream-of-consciousness type stuff where he talks about a whole lot of things and I love those videos.

He’s really funny, he’s engaging and it’s obvious he know what he’s talking about.

But to each their own, I guess.

I watch a good bit of his videos since I found him around the time I was getting into paper Magic recently and they’re interesting to watch, especially comparing his old 2017 stuff to now in terms of reserve list and other cards. The biggest negative thing I’ve seen consistently is that he claims (and appears to be true) that when he buys up all these alpha/beta and power 9 cards he will never sell them and uses a lot of his profits to buy up PSA 10’s and lots of collections. I’m sure he enjoys the feeling of sitting on a million cards that will never be reprinted again but it’s taking a very significant portion out of the market for people to buy with supposedly no end in sight of them being available for purchase or to obtain. The only people that have really benefited from the soaring magic prices the last few years were stores and anyone that happened to have the right cards in their collection that went up by 10X in price or so.
