Does anyone have advice for ebay stuff?
Buying or selling?
My parents and I had an account way way back, 25 years ago, had over 1000 transactions.
These days it seems more buyer friendly. As in costs more to list and seller has more liability. But also, sellers have gotten more slick with their wording.
My general advice is read carefully, and vet out the seller through feedback rating and transactions.
u know the markets fucked when even professor oak is tryna get in on the action
Damn
All these useless pokemon laying around that trainers never use, why shouldnt he want to make a little scratch for his troubles?
Mostly asking for advice on buying cards
-be careful reading the item description, and look at the pictures
-consider the seller’s feedbacks and positive-to-negative ratio
-avoid “too good to be true” deals and learn how to recognize fake cards
-for graded cards, carefully review the scans and cert on psa-cgc website.
-Think well before purchasing a card if you’re unsure about its conditions (do not blame the seller if you received a “weak 9”, ask for pictures before buying it!)
-learn about ebay rules, especially how it works in case of “item not as described”, authenticity guaranteed, missed delivery, and so on
-stay safe and avoid negotiating outside ebay
-be polite and don’t bother sellers via DMs with excessive lowballing or unserious behavior
-do not chargeback with your credit card or maliciously return items
In addition to what @decoypalmette said, when looking at their feedback, make sure you are looking at their feedback as a seller. It’s really easy for an account to get feedback as a buyer by purchasing lots of cheap items. I’ve seen accounts with 1000 positive feedback but zero feedback as a seller.
Something that I have found helpful is keeping track of who you actually buy from on a weekly/monthly/yearly basis. Of course it’s good to shop around for the best deal if possible, but then you also have to consider how well certain sellers pack/protect cards and the overall quality of the service you’ll get each time to avoid possible disappointment or other issues. I’ve had some sellers ship cards not even in sleeves or toploaders for example, something I’d rather avoid than run into again.
This also goes further into buying raw VS graded cards. You pretty much know what to expect with graded for the most part, but raw can be very hit or miss and so I think it’s important to know what you’re getting into as much as possible before making a larger purchase outside of cheaper binder/set cards (say if it’s more than $50 or whatever you would consider expensive).
Buying raw cards I have personally had the most luck with Japanese sellers, and then I’d say outside of this it’s very hit or miss and I’ve had to maintain a list of sellers who I know what I can expect better in terms of raw conditioned cards.
I suggest using the power of the search feature to learn more generally
Here is a helpful thread
Buy from trusted sellers with a high percentage and quantity of positive feedback. I personally would pay a few dollars extra to get something from someone trusted than a 1 feedback new to eBay seller.
If I’m not buying PSA, how can I tell if the card is good or mint quality from the listing?
ask for more pictures if you’re really interested, but generally stick to listings that already have good pictures
It’s difficult to tell. I’d recommend taking it slow. Eventually you won’t have to ask.
gotta risk it for the biscuit
