Adhi's Mudkip Collection

Hi there!

I’m Adhi, and after a few months of lurking on Elite Fourum, I finally decided to make an account and write my first topic. This is actually my first time joining any forum, I’m just trying to do something new every once in a while! I’ve read about many other species collectors’ journeys here, and it encouraged me to make this post, as it might help other Mudkip collectors out there.

As the title suggests, this post is about my Mudkip collection. I’ll be using this thread to document my Mudkip collecting journey.

I noticed many people include some background stories, so here’s mine:

Background story

My first introduction to Pokémon was through the animated series on TV when I was a kid. Later, my older brother played Pokémon Emerald on an emulator, and like any good little sibling, I annoyed him until he helped me install the emulator on my own laptop. I think I played Gen 3 when Gen 4 was still airing on TV and Gen 5 was already out.

Truth be told, my laptop back then didn’t have enough RAM to run anything beyond Gen 3 (I tried and failed miserably, and I really didn’t want to blow up my laptop), so I’ve only ever played Gen 3… even to this day.

I’ve always loved the color blue and water-type Pokémon, so naturally, I chose Mudkip as my first starter. I’ve been in love with that little blue creature ever since. I replayed Emerald several times trying to find the best team combination, and I almost always chose Mudkip, except for that one time I picked Torchic, but something just felt… off. Torchic is a great starter too, though, because when I played with Torchic, I finally explored other water Pokémon, and that’s how I discovered my second favorite: the fan-favorite Gyarados.

After a few Emerald reruns, life happened and I stopped playing Pokémon. I did try Pokémon GO and Pokémon Unite when they came out, but I never got into card collecting. When I was a kid, I moved around a lot and lost all my Yu-Gi-Oh! cards (including the legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragon). Later, as an adult, I also kept moving for studies and work, so I never stayed in one place for long. Because of the need to pack lightly and move quickly throughout my life, I didn’t have any collections outside of books and a few small trinkets that are now stored at my family’s house.

That changed last year when I finally decided to settle down in one city for a few years.

During the Pokémon boom this year, I stumbled upon some Pokémon vending content during one of my rare moments on social media and got hooked instantly (so much for self-control). For the first time in years, I finally had enough time and energy to research Pokémon cards, and I decided to buy myself a slab to mark a major life milestone.

I told myself it would be just one slab. But then one became two… and suddenly I was telling myself, “I need to collect every unique Mudkip artwork,” then “maybe every Mudkip from all sets,” then “maybe every variant,” and finally, “what about all the Mudkip cameos?” And, well… here we are.

The goal for this year’s collection is to complete all English Mudkip variants, excluding: cards above 100 € (3 cards), the remaining Mudkip EX serial number variants (8 cards), all cameo variants (26 cards, including 3 EX serial number variants and 5 I consider unobtainable), all edge cameo variants (3 cards, including 1 EX serial number variant, “edge” meaning Mudkip only appears as a silhouette in a poster), and one Jumbo card (which I almost forgot about until writing this post). That’s 36 cards out of a total of 72 variants (excluding the unobtainable ones).

Adhi's Mudkip Binder

I started this Mudkip collection in July 2025, and I think I’ve already reached my current goal, though I’m still waiting for two cards: the EX Dragon reverse holo (which seems to be lost by now) and the McDonald’s 2015 promo (which I just reordered from the US via eBay after the one within the EU got lost and refunded, with no other listings on CardMarket). I really wanted to post this after those two cards arrived but decided to post it now so I can get feedback from people with the same interests, refine the list soon, and have a better strategy for my collection.

As my professor once said, “You need to put your work in a community to get feedback.” (He was talking about research, not Pokémon cards, but it still applies.)

In the next few years, unless life pulls me in another direction, I plan to expand my collection to include all the cameos, EX serial variants, and maybe even cards above my current price bracket (not necessarily in that order). Who knows, maybe I’ll go for other languages or the full evolution line too.

Speaking of other languages, I also collect Indonesian cards! I won’t show them here yet because they’re still in Indonesia, but I’ll pick them up when I visit later this year for Christmas (if the bureaucracy lets me). Since Indonesian Pokémon cards only started during the Sun & Moon era, I’ve been able to collect the full Mudkip evolution line, including Marshtomp and Swampert. With the help of kind Tokopedia sellers (and the advantage of my Indonesian mother tongue), I managed to get almost the whole collection in one go, except for 3 cards from the SCC deck. That’s 12 out of 15 total variants.

I also have one German card that I bought as a “test drive” to see whether or not I want to collect other languages (and there’s no better start than with a language I also speak). But it turns out I still don’t get the same feeling as when I see Mudkip in English or Indonesian. Maybe it’s because I only ever watched Pokémon in those two languages and played the games in English.

And finally, attached below are what I call my Mudkip Master Set List (English) and Mudkip Evo Line Master Set List (Indonesian).

The English list is heavily inspired by a jazzhorse’s Reddit post and Quuador’s list. As for the cameo and edge cameo lists, they’re based on JoshsOddCollection’s list and RotomAmiti’s list, while the EX serial number variants are from another list. I merged all of them and cross-checked with several websites (e.g., Bulbapedia). From my personal experience, I found Collectr to have the most complete entries for all variants up to the World Championship Decks and stamped cards, as long as you already know the card and cameo names. Of course, I still verified everything manually through Bulbapedia.

And now that I’ve tricked you into reading all of that, since I’m still very new to this hobby, I’d love any feedback on the master set list!

Cheers,
Adhi

P.S. I actually use Excel for my list, but I’m aware some people prefer specific formatting, so I’ve attached the raw text version.

You have a fantastic collection. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to write this all up. I can’t answer any of your questions but just wanted to drop a note to say I enjoyed looking at your collection and reading the backstory.

Incredible collection! If you ever need any tips/help, feel free to let me know as we have a lot of overlap (I’m doing a torchic line global master set, including cameos)

Amazing, Mudkip is great! I’m excited to see the Indonesian cards once you pick them up, I’m just one card away from finishing my Indonesian Slowpoke Line master set. Looking forward to following along with your collection

@cryingatnight Thanks! Looking forward to working together on completing the Hoenn starter master set.

@slowqueen I’ll try to keep this thread updated during my (hopefully) holiday!
May I ask which Indonesian card it is, so I can check during my usual listings check? Just in case I see it first and can let you know.
Also, I really enjoy reading your article on the Japanese & English Master Set Lists!

@BANKS Haha, thanks! It’s nice to see your Mudkip profile picture too!

Thank you so much! I actually may have a copy on the way through @cryingatnight already, but the card is the Galarian Slowking Alt Art. I’ll definitely let you know if the copy I’m currently trying to buy doesn’t work out. Appreciate it

I remember my McDonald’s 25th mudkip had a bad print line due to that holo bleed “problem” and having to get another. Now I have 2 lol.

@harvvu Now you’re one step closer to having your Mudkip army, haha.

Thanks! I also really enjoy seeing someone else’s Indonesian card collection.

you seem to know a lot about this so I was wondering if you could give me some info on my mudkip? I won it years ago and people keep making offers, but I can’t figure out what price would be appropriate. That being said, it holds a lot of sentimental value to me so I’m curious either way. Tysm!

Welcome to the forum! I’m still very new to this hobby, but I’ll try my best to answer. I also want to disclaim that I currently only collect the English and Indonesian versions of Mudkip, and I don’t (yet) collect other languages.

As far as I know, you have the German version of the Nintendo Black Star Promo 005 Mudkip, also known as the Euro POP or European POP Tournament Mudkip. The non-English versions do not have the e-Reader code, just like in your picture, unlike the English counterpart. Here are some references you might find useful for this promo:

As for pricing, even the English Euro POP is currently outside my price range, so I don’t closely follow the market trends. That said, I believe the German version is much rarer and should be priced higher than the English counterpart.

I’ll also tag a couple of collectors here, @cryingatnight who collects the Euro POP set, and @enkaycards another Mudkip collector (hope you don’t mind!), in case they can help you further.

Cheers,
Adhi

lol I‘m one of the guys who contacted her regarding the card  So regarding the value, I just recently bought a cgc 10 on auction for 2600 usd, gut feeling is that I overpayed but honestly idc as I reached my collection goal.

I‘d value and also purchase a nm copy at 1,5k, I hope this helps with the further assessment.

I completely agree, around 1.5k USD or euros is about what I’d value that at. When it comes to the German copies, I paid 1.5k USD for the Torchic in a CGC 10 and 900 USD for the Treecko in a CGC 9.

I’d check out this article by Tapp for some more info about the card in general. The non-english release is still shrouded in some mystery compared to the English, but it is a tournament promo with low population and decently high demand for collectors. If you’re ever willing to sell it, please reach out as I still need it :joy:

Thank you for the more fitting reference! I remember skimming through the article before I made an account here, so I couldn’t find it in my bookmarks.

I was going to write this update a few days ago when I arrived in Indonesia, but I’m still dealing with the worst jet lag of my life. Between long flights, time zone changes, and weeks of back-to-back late-night events before my holiday, my sleep schedule didn’t stand a chance.

After months of dealing with bureaucratic hurdles in Germany, I was finally able to fly to Indonesia. Once I arrived, my twin sibling had already laid out all the Indonesian cards on my table. At first glance, I immediately fell in love with the silver-border Mudkip cards. It made me wonder: if the Indonesian Mudkip cards from the Sun & Moon era already look this good, how amazing must the older ones be? I’m still debating whether to commit to Japanese cards too (since I already made a Japanese list). It would definitely be great for the Mudkip collection journey, but would it be good for my wallet’s disposable income? Who knows. (And is this how all all-language species collectors start?)

Next year, I’ve also decided to collect the German non-holo non-promo versions while continuing to complete the English cameos. Looks like I’ve completely contradicted my earlier decision not to collect German cards or cards in languages I don’t speak (yes, I’m looking at you, Japanese cards).

And without further ado, here is my Indonesian Mudkip Evo Line collection.

Adhi's Mudkip Binder

As mentioned in my previous post, my Indonesian Mudkip evo line progress is 12/15. I’m still missing the three evo line cards from the SCC deck. I check Indonesian marketplaces periodically but haven’t had any luck so far, but one can dream of completing the set someday.

I also have another section of the Indonesian collection for non-TCG items. These are Mudkip Tretta and Advanced Staks that I randomly found on Tokopedia. I tried to find Mezastar as well, but couldn’t. (I actually found the full Tretta evo line at my usual store, but Swampert, as usual, was exceeding my non-TCG budget, so I settled for Mudkip only.)

Adhi's Mudkip Non-TCG

Here’s the list for the Mudkip Tretta and Mezastar Evo Line, in case any fellow Mudkip collectors want to go down that road too.

Mudkip Evo Line Tretta and Mezastar List

Tretta

Primal Reversion’s Super Power! (Tretta):
04-36 Mudkip
04-33 Marshtomp
04-04-A Swampert
04-04-B Swampert
04-16 Swampert

Glaciate! Kyurem Assault (Tretta):
U2-31 Mudkip
U2-07 Swampert
U2-18 Swampert

Great Gathering! Legendary! Mirage! Mega Evolution! (Tretta):
Z4-25 Swampert

Mezastar

Super Tag set 2 (Mezastar):
2-2-032 Mudkip
2-2-033 Marshtomp
2-2-034 Swampert
2-2-013 Swampert

Gorgeous Star set 2 (Mezastar):
4-2-032 Mudkip
4-2-033 Marshtomp
4-2-034 Swampert
4-2-017 Swampert

Promotional tags (Mezastar):
2-2-033 Marshtomp

On top of that, my twin sibling also bought me some Indonesian cards. Their favorite artist is Tomokazu Komiya, so they picked up an Alolan Vulpix (my go-to Pokémon in Pokémon Unite) illustrated by Komiya, as well as Plusle and Minun because the duo is just too cute. They also got me the Pikachu Berkemeja Batik promo because the background reminded them of a pride flag, so they bought it as my Pride Month gift this year.

Adhi's Other Cards

And that wraps up this year’s Mudkip collection update. Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a very happy new year. May you spend this season with loved ones and/or get some well-deserved rest before the journey ahead.

Cheers,
Adhi

Notes:

  • I’ll try to clean up this thread later once I have the cameos and German cards. I’m still deciding whether to separate each language into its own post or just update the old post from time to time.
  • I’m also planning to make a spreadsheet for English, Indonesian, German, and Japanese Mudkip cards, along with the non-TCG items, during this holiday. Hopefully I can follow through on that plan.
