3D scanners for trading cards

I’d be interested to hear your opinions about being able to 3D scan trading cards, or objects in general, has anyone ever played around with such a thing? Are they accurate at all?

I figured it would be cool to be able to scan cards and then objectively check on my PC whether they have very hard to see creases, whitening, dents, etc.

I’ve done some research on 3D scanners from past University project work. We used a xbox kinect as a make shift scanner, it worked pretty well on objects. Idea was to 3D scan an object and replicate it using a 3D printer + other things. For a card though you can pick up most things just by eye and good lighting. The only advantage with a scanner would be maybe a crease or dent you might have missed. 3D scanners can be very accurate up to 0.1mm resolution and 1mm precision for scanners between $500-$1000 but also volatile due to lighting and the environment the object is scanned in. Although interesting to be able to see defects on cards that are hard to see, I can’t justify the use for it. Would be interested to hear from anyone else.
