One of my favourite sets, the artwork is stunning. I feel it’s underrated as a set!
I’m surprised by the consensus that its skipped over, such a shame. I bought a Gym Challenge first edition booster box in 09’. looking back, and its the only complete set I’ve examined up close. I enjoy how the set has plenty of commons and uncommons to discover, unlike other the usual 64 card sets where the commons and uncommon cards frankly get repetitive.
Koga’s Zubat, Blaine’s Charmander, Sabrina’s Haunter and Sabrina’s Gengar are such beautiful cards.
Koga’s Ditto is lame, however.

I remember i liked seeing the gym series with the trainers who owned the Pokemon, i thought it was cool to know that team Rocket had a mewtwo!

Gonna be honest: I think the non-holo artworks for both Gym sets are very, very plain and generic and are actually the worst out of the entire WOTC era.
Many of the holos are terrific, though.
