1st time encountering a return

The guy opened a return request saying it was damaged when the card haven’t even arrived with tracking?

…that’s bizarre. Search the tracking number with Google and check it on the USPS website. Sometimes the eBay tracker can be inaccurate.

Yeah something is not right. I’m by no means perfect but I packed that thing solid

I’m going to call eBay and see what’s up

I Am finding this highly SUS! like buyers remorse, or they want a free card!

@boomersooner35, Accept the return wait for it to arrive and then refund buyer if everything is in good order. I would recommend sending high valued items with insurance next time so you dont lose out. You should be able to resell item if its not in terrible shape. Buyer may have exaggerated or made up damage.

It’s got insurance

That’s how I feel about it as well

Call eBay customer support and relay this information. If you don’t get the advice directly from them and follow the course of action they provide, it can backfire later when you inevitably file a claim.

The huge deal is IF buyer is trying to get a refund Before it was even delivered! finding out if that is what hapoened is very important.

I’m not sure this is the correct course of action. It looks like the buyer is claiming the item is damaged before it has even arrived, which is, at the very least, the sign of a dishonest buyer (if not an outright scammer, and a very stupid one at that). It’s possible the tracking information is wrong or hasn’t been updated, but this is unlikely and you should not count on it. Accepting the return request or issuing any type of refund at this point would be a mistake.

Charlie is right: you need to talk to someone at eBay before you take any action at all. I wouldn’t even reply to the buyer before discussing the situation with an eBay rep. If they are trying to scam you without realizing that the tracking number shows the card as undelivered, they might try to talk their way out of it if you demonstrate that you’re onto them.

Make sure you talk on the phone with someone from eBay. You’ll have to click through a bunch of customer service menus intended to make it difficult to connect with a rep (fuck eBay), but you’ll eventually arrive at an option to have someone call you within a few minutes. It will almost certainly be a low-level call center grunt, but they should still be able to grasp the situation and offer some guidance. At the very least, keep a record of when you called, who you talked to, and what precisely they told you to do.

eBay has very very minimal protection for sellers, but they do place a very high premium on tracking information when it comes to resolving disputes, which could work to your favor. If the buyer is claiming the card is damaged before it has even arrived, per the tracking, and you inform them of this fact ASAP, they may be more inclined to side with you in the event of a possible dispute (say, if the buyer tries to return an empty box or a damaged copy of the card).

It’s possible that the buyer is just mixing up purchases he made. I wouldn’t conclude that the buyer is necessarily being dishonest, although it does seem likely that this is the case.

Another alternative (which I brought up earlier but that OP hasn’t directly addressed) is that the tracking on eBay has been slow to update. To check this, OP can Google the tracking number and refer to the tracker on the USPS website. I’ve seen the eBay tracker not update correctly before.

Yeah, this is certainly true. 99.9% of buyers out there are perfectly honest, but still best to cover your tracks just in case (without being accusatory, of course). Definitely check the tracker on the USPS website; if that shows the same thing that the eBay tracker does (that the item is not delivered), then I’d reiterate my original suggestion to get in contact with eBay ASAP.

If the official USPS tracker shows the item as delivered, then you should probably proceed with the return as normal. Don’t issue a refund until you get the item back and examine it. If it appears that it is your original card, and that the buyer is being truthful that it was damaged by USPS in initial transit, you might be eligible for some compensation given that you have insurance. You’d have to research that, though… I don’t know what the USPS policy is as it pertains to damage versus straight up losing the parcel.

I called eBay and they said I’m good. Just waiting for the return now. Guy on the phone said they are looking into it

For what it’s worth, I’d recommend you call Ebay. I’ve had buyers try to pull stuff on me in the past, and an immediate call to Ebay cleared up some issues. In my experience, they take care of their sellers a little more than they used to.

That’s exactly what I did
