You can say your dog ate it or you lost it and take the bad review. You can ship it out and lose the difference of a few hundred bucks or a grand or whatever extra you think you would have made. You can keep the card, refund the buyer, and let Ebay step in if the buyer puts up a fit. Whatever you do, you should make these decisions on your own, not based on a hivemind mentality. Everyone on E4 has gotten burned thinking they bought something for a steal, only to have the item not come/get refunded. So I’m sure you’ll get lots of hate. Hell, maybe it’s even a bannable offense. All I know is, something like this you need to put on your big boy pants and make your own decision. If you were happy selling it for the price it sold for, it’s silly to have regret because you might have been able to squeeze out a little more.
Omg dude!! Just saw this… I bet everybody deals with the “what if” but I’m not a gambler so I’m spooked I supposed . but I appreciate that example… Crazy
@chewy , I think we’ve all made some deals we regret. Personally, I would honor the sale; to me my integrity is worth more than the potential loss, even if I had to buy back a similar card for more in the future. Ultimately, it’s your decision and only your decision though.
@chewy, package it up nicely and send it away. Virtually every card you have sold, are currently selling, or will go on to sell will be worth more at some point in the future. Can’t get hung up on those sorts of things. Take the cash and focus on what’s ahead
I have bought and sold too many cards and other collectibles over the years. What I learned is that you have to get into the mindset of a reason a sale is necessary, figure a good price, and then be happy that the sale completed and move on. Otherwise it will drive you nuts.
It seems we all worry about this kind of sale more than the great scores we get. But hopefully over the long run both the financials and karma work out. Otherwise my sale ~ 3 years ago of a 1st edition Team Rocket booster box for $450 (that I bought 20 years ago for ~$80) would have driven me to suicide. As would all the other sealed product (like 1st edition base booster boxes in 4 different - non-English languages) that I sold in 2018 at less than 10% of their current value.
The thing is, I would have sold my entire Pokemon collection for less than $5,000 at almost any time between 2001 and 2017. By that benchmark I am way ahead, because my more recent sales have been much closer to present value.
I have sold reasonably based on market values at the time of each sale. And I was ready to sell to put the funds to other uses. To get things I wanted rather than holding items in hopes that my kids figured out what to do with the cards as inheritance.
I just went back and read most of your older posts on this forum, just wanted to say thanks for joining and posting. Interesting to read stuff from people who have seen a lot and were into the hobby at the start.
If you regret that sale, just take solace in knowing that I once sold a Base Unlimited box for $179.
I’ve made tons of sales that I regret. As has anyone that has been involved in collectibles markets for any duration of time. No point in looking back in regret. I’ve also made tons of purchases that I’m very happy I made, as I’m sure you have, too.
