Someone here has tried something akin to “Kurt’s Card Care” (a polish). Here’s the post.
They somewhat describe their experience with the holo post polishing. Maybe you can see if it lines up with your experience? I would think the polished out scratches are harder to see but maybe still detectable.
Otherwise, I don’t know much about 1st edition Base. Maybe some cards can have a thinner opqaue layer, allowing the holo to shine through more?
