I just don’t agree that Logan Paul ruined TCG, or Manga, or Anime at all. Did he influence a change? Probably. Ruined? No.

There’s no need to exaggerate or throw in strawman arguments, like comparing house and car prices with made-up numbers, since that doesn’t make any sense.
The hobby does suck for plenty of people right now, not just them, so this tone isn’t pleasant to read at all.
They’re in a tough spot and they are surely aware of that, if they want to vent a bit I’d say it’s understandable.

It’s not a strawman lol. You can compare the current market to literally any other market in the way that things don’t stay the same for forever. Collectible coins are up 100x from what they were 15-20 years ago. Art market for things like posters and prints are super competitive and there’s no pump behind it. And don’t even get me started on sports cards.
Does it suck to have to spend more money on something than you did 10 years ago? It sure does. Is it surprising? Not at all.

I can speak for postcards, as I am very involved in collecting those besides Pokémon. In the past 15 years, the prices on average have been almost exactly copying the same rate as salary increases.
Most of them cost many times more but people also earn the same times as much. So they can buy a similar amount of postcards now as back then with their income.
Although, it is very different with rare and nice items. I think the most I paid for a single postcard was around $300 which everyone from 15 years ago would laugh at and think I was completely crazy. Those used to cost maybe $10, not more. So on average, the real value hasn’t really changed but for the rare items the prices went bananas like with all collectables.

Yea I collected stamps for a while, though primarily used for various art projects. Same thing. Most are around the same price but the more niche ones have skyrocketed. Apparently some of the early Japan ones I have are like hundreds of dollars now lol

This thread is locked, but I will post after the fact because I just want to.
When something that you love and enjoy starts to change you can only resist for so long and if you are not willing to either bend and join in then you have to do the necessary internal work to move on and accept that things have changed. This is a really easy thing to say, but of course in practice it is much more difficult.
What I find a lot of people in your position fail to recognise is that you haven’t changed, and that is and should be the most alarming problem for you. If you are someone who expects a thing you enjoy to only ever change in ways you approve of (remember, Pokemon was a multi billion franchise before you started collecting it), then you are delusional at worst and naive at best. You are still stuck where you were when you started collecting Pokemon cards. Socially, mentally, emotionally.
YOU need to change in order to have the maturity to accept that things are not always the way you want them to be. If you are mature enough you will find a way to engage in the Pokemon franchise in a way that does suit your needs and your desires. I PROMISE you can do it, you will just need to look beyond what you are holding onto and look beyond the idea that celebrity involvement in things you like is the sole reason why things change.
Obsession with celebrity is your own sickness to deal with. They influence hobbies they get involved and promote themselves in for sure, but losing sleep about what Logan Paul is doing in the TCG/Manga space is no different than losing sleep over what Kim Kardashian is doing in the make up space. If you centre your enjoyment around these people then you will never feel good at all.
