WTB: Ken Sugimori signed card

Damn, okay. So this was an instance of a PSA authenticator just messing up?

One of many

Whelp. For the longest time, I thought PSA (and BGS) was an infallible source of truth for card grading/authentication. The community has very quickly worn down my trust in these companies, lol.

You can always tell how new someone is to pokemon collecting by how much they trust PSA

Guilty :slightly_frowning_face: I’m learning though!

To me an air tight story on the origins of a Sugimori signature is worth more than the card it is on. PSA’s track record on authentication of his signature is horrible.

Is it this signature specifically, or are they just terrible at authentication in general?

I’m positive there are a number of other fakes floating around out there for most artists who have publicly signed. Grading is a tool to help you avoid getting scammed with a fake, but it is not something I would souly rely on.

Ah, okay. In that case, what’s the best resource to having a signature authenticated? Internet crowdsourced opinions?

@davie that, and/or buying from a trusted seller. Send me a DM sometime and I can give you a list of members here I personally trust the opinions of who have collected signed cards for many years.

Ouu, will do! I’ve recently gotten back into collecting, so the openness and friendliness of E4 (and more broadly the whole community) is a welcome surprise
